KIS is thrilled to share the exceptional achievements of two outstanding alumni, Joseph Chang and Amanda Yapp, who have recently been recognized with prestigious scholarships, showcasing their academic brilliance and well-rounded qualities.
Joseph Chang: Maxis Young Leaders Scholarship Recipient
In a nationwide competition, Joseph Chang, a KIS A Level graduate, has secured the highly sought after Maxis Young Leaders Scholarship. Other categories were ‘Maxis Women in Tech’ and ‘Maxis Tech Scholarship’. Out of 1200 applicants, Joseph emerged as one of the five recipients of this prestigious scholarship category. Notably, Joseph was the sole winner from Sabah.
The Maxis Young Leaders Scholarship is known be highly competitive. It offers financial assistance of up to RM45,000 annually for tuition fees, an exclusive internship opportunity at Maxis, and a guaranteed job placement with the leading telecommunications giant.
Joseph, currently pursuing his undergraduate studies in International Relations at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), expressed his excitement, stating, “It was an overwhelming experience to realize that so many other top students throughout Malaysia had applied for this scholarship award, and to be one of 16 winners was surreal!”
Amanda Yapp: ASEAN Scholarship Recipient for Academic Excellence
Meanwhile, Amanda Yapp, 15, has been awarded the highly competitive ASEAN Scholarship by the Ministry of Education in Singapore. This prestigious accolade recognizes Amanda’s exceptional academic achievements and well-rounded qualities.
Originating from Sabah, Amanda commenced her educational journey at KIS pre-school at the age of 3. The ASEAN Scholarship offers four years of full scholarship which allows her to pursue her IGCSEs through to her A Levels at Anderson Secondary School in Singapore. The scholarship focuses not only on academic prowess but also on developing crucial skills such as leadership and communication, fostering goodwill and understanding among young people from different countries and Singapore.
