Nurturing Global Citizens Award, 16.03.19
New Initiative
I am pleased to announce that, starting from this year, KIS is going to present a special award to students who fulfill the promise of global citizenship. One student from the Primary School and one from Secondary will be selected by the Senior Leadership Team from nominees put forward by the community.
The profile of the selected student must be aligned with the school’s vision of Global Citizenship:
A global citizen understands that we are all connected, upholds the values of equality and actively contributes to the development of a better world.
Global Citizens
· have an awareness of the wider world and a sense of their own role within it
· respect and value diversity
· are committed to social justice, equality and sustainability
· participate in the community at a range of levels, from local to global
· take responsibility for their actions
Global Citizenship involves:
· Enquiring, discussing, thinking critically, reflecting and collaborating
· Exploring the complexity of global issues and engaging with multiple perspectives
· Applying learning to real-life issues and contexts
· All ages and all areas of the curriculum
· The whole school community
So, who are we looking for?
We are probably looking for a student who has a high profile in school in terms of leadership. The person could be an Eco-Warrior/Student Council member/Charity Committee member/Prefect etc. [but does not have to be]. This is a person who is organised and at the forefront when events are being lead and managed. He/she has the capacity to build teams and bring people together, and has demonstrated this ability. They are reliable. They treat others equally and respectfully and are not afraid to identify and challenge unfairness when they see it. They are KIS community-minded but also think of others outside of the walls of the school. They can delegate but will shoulder major burdens themselves. They are hands-on and can take the initiative and think for themselves.
If you would like to nominate a KIS student [from Primary and Secondary] for the KIS Global Citizenship Award, please email Mrs Renshaw [Secondary] margaretrenshaw@kis.edu.my or Mrs Russell [Primary] nickyrussell@kis.edu.my.
