Life after Lockdown Photography Competition

Life after Lockdown Photography Competition

This week, KIS is pleased to launch our photography competition ‘Life after Lockdown’. The competition will run for the duration of the academic year as our intent is to chronicle what we very much hope will be the last leg of our long online learning journey. With that in mind, we encourage entries not just from Primary and Secondary students and staff but from parents and our wider community as well.

You may perhaps think that the title ‘Life after Lockdown’ is inappropriate. After all there are still restrictions in place, we still have to follow SOPs and most importantly, our KS3 and Primary students are still at home instead of in school where they belong. But there are signs that things are changing. The numbers in Sabah and all across Malaysia are falling drastically; restrictions are being eased; the older years are coming back to school next week and we have every confidence that the rest of our students won’t be far behind them.

Things aren’t quite where we’d like them to be yet. We are like the fish in the picture above: leaping and striving and hoping that we are going to make it safely to the other side. And we are going to make it. Yes, there will be ups and downs along the way, but this competition is designed to help us celebrate all those firsts that we are still looking forward to: the first time we see friends or family members we’ve been separated from; the first time we get to come back to school; the first time we get to jet off on a proper holiday or spend quality time with those we love without fear of infection. We have so many ‘first time after’ moments ahead of us and this competition is a way for us to capture them, as a school and as a community.

The rules for the competition are simple. Every month, you can send Ms Hitchen or Mrs Renshaw a picture that shows you enjoying life outside of your laptop. It can be something as simple as you hanging out with your friends, going on a walk or to a restaurant you haven’t been to for a while or something more significant, such as a reunion with family members or a trip to somewhere you’ve never been before.

Please make sure you attach a caption or explanation with your pictures, as each month we will select a photo for first, second and third place, with the winners being awarded house points. Then, at the end of the year we will reveal the overall winners of the competition who will receive fame, glory and mystery prizes for the top three entrants!

We will be displaying the photos around the school and at the end of the year, we will put together a ‘Life after Lockdown’ book that will be available to everyone, so that years into the future we can look back on what will, hopefully, have been one of the most extraordinary and challenging times in our lives and remember how we all got through it, together.

Good luck to all our future entrants and please enjoy this video compilation of what KIS students and staff are most looking forward to over the coming months.
