Last Tuesday our school hosted a wonderful Open Day, welcoming over 70 prospective parents and students. One question I was asked repeatedly is “what makes KIS so special?”

There are a multitude of responses I could, and did, give in reply.

Today I was delighted to hear that one of our students, Amanda Yap (Year 11), has received a full offer of a prestigious ASEAN scholarship to study in Singapore. This highly competitive scholarship recognizes students who are not only academically strong, but who are well-rounded learners with inquisitive minds and a creative spirit. It is in simple terms a scholarship for students who demonstrate the characteristics of a global citizen.

As I outlined in my message last week, a quality school is one that nurtures young people to be of impact in the world of tomorrow. A quality school is one that lays the foundations, both academically but also ethically and morally, for students to thrive in school and beyond.

The answer to the question “what makes KIS so special?” is really simple enough. It is the journey of students like Amanda.

On October 10th KIS is excited to be hosting our next whole school event – a birthday party culminating a year of celebration to mark the 50th year anniversary of our school. On this day we will be reflecting on the journeys of the thousands of students like Amanda who have come through KIS and gone on to achieve brilliant things around the world.

The celebrations will begin in the school Hall starting at 1300hrs with all students, staff and a number of special guests. The event will be an opportunity to look back on the many great achievements of KIS over the past 50 years, as well as look ahead to the next 50 years and the many things to come. Following this there will be a ‘birthday party’ on the school grounds for the remainder of the afternoon. There will also be a gallery walk with images and artifacts from the last 50 years. A full schedule of events will be released shortly.

We look forward to this event with great anticipation to not only celebrate 50 successful years, but to also celebrate ‘what makes KIS so special’.
