“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” [Henry Ford]

Yesterday morning I had the privilege to meet and speak with a number of our new families who have joined KIS since the start of Term 2 as part of the ‘New Parents Coffee Morning’.

A big thank you to the PTA Steering Committee for arranging the event!

It was a wonderful chance to meet new members of our community and also to highlight what I believe makes KIS such a special school.

Central to KIS’s uniqueness is that the students, your children, sit at the heart of everything we do. Every decision made, discussion had and ringgit spent has student learning and the student experience as the focus. As a non-profit, parent owned and governed school, the main priority we have is ensuring that the best possible school environment is cultivated so your children can learn, develop and grow into the global citizens of impact they are sure to be.

While it is truly wonderful to have our student’s needs as our number one priority, what really drives positive change and further improves our school is when we collectively (parents, students, staff) work together in pursuit of this goal.

It is only Week 2 of Term 2 and we already have much to celebrate thanks to the input, energy and investment of the KIS community.

On the 15th of January it was announced that KIS has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award in the TES Awards for International Schools 2024, thanks to the impressive and continued hard work of our schools Eco-Warriors team and all who support them. This is no small achievement considering the hundreds of schools that applied for the award.

This week I also had the opportunity to sign several cheques for donations to a number of charities. The amounts donated were from a range of different activities, with a significant amount coming from the profit made by the incredible primary students following the highly successful Enterprise week. Please see a breakdown of the money’s raised and donations below:

  • RM1,821 from Pink day channelled to Kinabalu Pink Ribbon
  • RM3,340.60 from the Christmas fair channelled to Persatuan Sindrom Down Kota Kinabalu
  • RM160.00 from Enterprise week (EYFS) to go to a local charity
  • RM102.00 from Enterprise week (Yr1) to go to a local charity
  • RM1,080.00  from Enterprise week (Yr2) to go to a local charity
  • RM1,149.70 from Enterprise week (Yr3) to go to a local charity
  • RM945.00 from Enterprise week (Yr4) channelled to Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Kota Kinabalu
  • RM765.00 from Enterprise week (Yr5) channelled to Sabah Cheshire Home and Services
  • RM1,729.65 from Enterprise week (Yr6) to go to a local charity

Over the coming term I encourage everyone to seek out the opportunities to come together for events, stay together to build the community and work together for our students’ future.

Please enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks.
