From the Principal 18.02.2023
Saturday 18th February
Dear KIS Community,
Tomorrow we wish our U13 Vipers the best of luck as they head off to Thailand to compete in the FOBISIA Friendly Games. Thank you to Ms Watt, Mr Celestial, and Ms Young for their support on the trip. As we have seen recently, our students have been taught well with the right skills and mind-set to cope well with the pressures of competitive sports. Go Vipers, we are proud of you all!
Earlier this week Primary Learning Conferences took place. These are an excellent opportunity for parents to understand their child’s learning and progress. This was also seen in Year 9 this week for their parent teacher meetings, Year 10 is coming soon. At KIS, we keep your child at the centre of what we do. The school and parents work together for a 360 degree view of how they are doing, at school and at home. Having this partnership is what makes a school like ours so enriching and caring for your child’s development; whether they are three years old or 18. It has been proven many times and through relevant research, when parents work together with the school, their children thrive and are able to reach their true potential. Not only do we thank our parents for their support, we also thank our staff for supporting your children and for involving you, the parents.
Next week we will be welcoming Mr Sam Gipson (our next Principal) and his family as they visit us to support their smooth transition for the new school year. We will also be holding a special assembly on Tuesday morning to celebrate the past five decades of KIS as we head towards our 50th anniversary later this year. If you are in school next week, you may hear some bells and alarms, not a part of the celebrations, but a practice of our emergency procedures, which we carry out each term so that students, staff, and visitors can be prepared and kept safe.
Please check your emails for the Canteen Survey from Colour Meals. This is an opportunity for you to be part of a review of the catering at KIS and so help to improve the experience for all of our students, staff and parents.
Finally, in staffing news, we welcome two new members of staff to our Ground Staff team next week; Mr Olnandus Kong will join our maintenance team, and Mr Rusdih Masni will be a part of our cleaning team. If you see them around please say hello.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Ian Gross
