From the Principal 18.01.2020

Dear KIS Community,

A huge round of applause for our students including the Gold Award DofE students who completed their expedition this week, this really is a big accomplishment for all of them. Thank you to Mr & Mrs Colbeck for accompanying and supporting them through their achievement. Our admiration for our students continues with their swimming achievements last weekend at the SAGs. Well done to all who competed across the clubs and in particular three of our students who qualified for the Nationals in March. You can read more in the sports section.

Thank you to the many parents who attended the Spelling Workshop, we will be having further workshops in the future, please keep an eye out for further information. The PTAs New Friends Team also welcomed some of our new parents into our community on Friday morning at Café Haru. Thank you also to the members of our community (Parents and others) who took the time over this past week to come and talk to our primary students and help inspire them in their work, more can be read in the Primary news section.

Continuing the theme of community, we will soon be starting our CIS community survey, an opportunity for all members of the KIS community to feed into our development and help guide and improve what we are doing at school. Further information will be coming. As a result of our last survey we have now included translations of our vision and mission on our website.

This weekend see the start of our first Staff Development Days. All teachers and TLA’s will be involved in some form of professional development through workshops led by our staff. Areas include teaching & learning, use of technologies and a focus on wellbeing. This all started yesterday with a group of staff (including the PE department) being trained for the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches (NRASTC), a worldwide recognised lifesaving qualification. Mr Bromley is a qualified instructor and we have another instructor from Malaysia coming to verify the course. Thank you to all of our staff who will be leading the 14 different workshops over this weekend.

As you prepare for school next week, please remember we are celebrating Chinese New Year on Wednesday 22nd. Parents, students and staff are invited to wear Chinese outfits and Parents are welcome to come and watch the lion dance, starting at 8.30am at the front of school.
