Dear KIS Community,

Going to university is one of the goals in view when students leave school. Leaving KIS to go to university does not always mean you have left KIS. For one of our students, Vinay Murthy, he left us to carry on his education in IT at a UK university in 2017. Vinay wanted to continue with his Duke of Edinburgh Award. Ms McNutt has been supporting from afar and we just received news this week that he has been awarded his Gold Award, the highest level for the DofE. Congratulations Vinay. Also in the past month we have received news that two Silver Awards have been earned, Diego in Year 11 and Macy Moore (another former student at KIS). Add to this nearly 10 students from Year 10 receiving Bronze Awards and we can clearly see that our students are simply ‘getting on with it’ despite such challenging circumstances. Well done to all and to our DofE team, very ably led by Ms McNut. We are proud of all of you and full details are in the secondary section of this newsletter.

Thank you to Mrs Colbeck for enabling Book Week to come back to KIS this year and thank you to all students, staff and parents for getting involved. Reading is so important and having opportunities to drop everything at certain points during the week to pick up a book and simply immerse ourselves in another world, just for a few moments, is so beneficial on many levels. Seeing so many staff and students getting involved, dressing up and enjoying pyjama and character days was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to support this past week and transform the school into the future.

Remember, the PTA AGM will take place on Saturday 5th June. I wish you all a safe and relaxing weekend and with a holiday coming up next week I wish you all Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
