Dear KIS Community,

Welcome back and I trust you, family and friends are all well and calm. Thank you all for your continued support and patience as we implemented more health checks from the start of the week. I have been pleased to see 90% of our students in school this week and carrying on with their studies as usual. The health screening during the week has been successful, two students had raised temperatures during the week and have since been cleared by their doctors. After the weekend we look forward to more of our community being back in school following time away as a precaution due to travels, again all appear well and ready for school.

Yesterday we hosted the AIMS Heads’ meeting and had 16 visiting Principals (all were health checked and cleared for entry). As you can imagine the main discussion was focussed on the current coronavirus. We were all agreed that unless Ministry directives dictated otherwise, we should continue as we are, monitoring and keeping our communities safe whilst minimising the disruption to regular school activities. All schools are continuing school trips locally and internationally where possible.

As part of our own health awareness, please make sure you have updated and returned your child’s medical health assessment which you should have received by email. You can also print these forms from our website. It is important we have up to date information as well as current contact details – phone number and email for parents and guardians as well as an emergency contact number.

This weekend if you have a few spare hours, the Eco Warriors are having a beach clean-up from 9am to 12pm at Teluk Likas. Please bring some gloves (bags will be provided) and children should be with an adult.

As well as parent teacher meetings for Year 11 and Primary, next week, the school photos will be taking place in the first half of the week, perhaps a haircut might be on the agenda this weekend? Please make sure your children are in the correct school uniform with no jewellery or make up. A letter with full details has already been sent to you.

Next week we will be recognising the first anniversary of the passing of Nicholas Chong. We will be having a small memorial on Wednesday 12th with Year 9 where we will share fond memories. Previously the school had purchased a star in Nicholas’ name and the star chart for this will be officially hung outside of the secondary library. If you would like to attend, please contact the Head of Secondary, margaretrenshaw@kis.edu.my for further information.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,
