From the Principal 02.09.2023
Selamat Hari Kebangsaan 2023!
It was a wonderful experience spending my first ‘Merdeka Day’ in Malaysia driving through the hills around KK and seeing all of the national and state flags on display. Everywhere we went, people were proudly flying flags, spending time with friends and family and generally enjoying the holiday.
National days in many countries can be contentious, whether because of historical issues or contemporary political disagreements, however I have always believed that it is important that large communities take opportunities wherever possible to celebrate together. Celebrations like national holidays are not just about looking backwards and what was achieved and what went before, but also about looking forward to the many great things on the horizon. They are as much about history as they are about aspiration.
On October 10th our community will be celebrating together, not quite on the scale of Hari Merdeka, but in our own special way, as the finale of a year of celebrations for our 50th anniversary.
I encourage everyone in our community to pencil this date into your diaries as it will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all that has been achieved at KIS over the last 50 years, but more importantly, to really look ahead to the future and the next 50 years of the KIS journey. KIS is a school with enormous potential and a place I am very aspirational for. This event will be an excellent opportunity to share where I hope to lead the school in the coming years. Of course, it will also be a great chance to get together, show our pride in the KIS community and enjoy one another’s company. Please keep an eye out for further details about this event!
Please have a pleasant weekend,
Sam Gipson
