From the Head of Secondary 19.06.2021

With the end of term rapidly approaching we are in full planning mode for the next academic year. As part of that, we have been finalising the timetable. This is a not an easy task, with so many teachers and classes to consider in addition to considering those staff who will be form tutors or have extra responsibilities. Of particular note, for the coming year, the following staff have been offered and have accepted, generally, specific roles which have been vacated by leaving staff in Secondary this year:

Head of Key Stage 5: Dr Colin Dickinson

Head of Key Stage 3: Ms Emily Colley

Reporting and Assessment Coordinator: Mr George Colbeck

House Activities Coordinator: Mr Stuart Bromley

Creative and Performing Arts Assistant: Ms Christina Chang

Head of English: Ms Roberta Young

Congratulations to these colleagues and we look forward to working together from August onwards.

As you read this we are recovering [if that’s the right word?!] from the Year 13 Graduation Ceremony which took place via the wonders of Zoom last evening. As usual it was a moving and glorious occasions and we were delighted that Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh JP agreed to be our Guest Speaker. The Graduation is a landmark event in the lives of our young people and thanks must go to Mr Andrew Hallas and Ms Lisa Ambrose for organising the event so perfectly, to Bobby Wong and Leilana Pilcher for their Head Prefect Speeches and to Grace Lee and Roshween Riar for their wonderful musical performances. You will find a full review of the Graduation Ceremony in next week’s newsletter.

Planning for the Year 6 to 7 Transition event is in its final stages and we look forward to providing an exciting three days for the students from Tuesday to Thursday next week. Although it will all be via Google Meet I hope that students and parents will find it really interesting and beneficial. The main goal is to give some idea of what life in Secondary is like, to introduce the students to their form tutors and to enjoy some exciting lessons from secondary teachers.  Parents will be invited to a meeting where we will answer any questions that they may have and the three days will begin and end with our new Year 7s in assemblies so that they can learn about the ‘nuts and bolts’ such as having a student diary and a locker.

Kind Regards

Mrs Renshaw

Deputy Principal / Head of Secondary
