What’s Coming Up?
With only eight weeks to the end of the academic year we are busy making sure that everything is in place to facilitate all that has to be completed.
Specific events include:
Year 7 to 10 Exams: 7th to 14th June. These days give the students the experience of sitting formal examinations, good preparation for taking IGCSEs and A Levels in later years, and for providing an opportunity to show academic strengths and progress.
Year 12 Careers Days: 13th to 15th June. Ms Colbeck is devising a three-day programme with useful practical sessions such as ‘Cooking for One’ and ‘Car Maintenance’, talks from career specialists and invited guests as they give the students some insight into their own chosen career paths. There are also sessions on writing personal statements [essential for tertiary education applications] and research on possible courses at worldwide universities.
Year 10 Looking to the Future: 15th and 16th June. The employment world of tomorrow will be a very different place with many jobs in fields that do not yet exist. Year 10 will be investigating these ideas and focusing on the transferable skills which are essential for career growth and employment. These skills include Communication, Critical thinking, Teamwork, Creativity and Leadership. They will be reflecting on their current skill levels and thinking about how they can use the plethora of extra-curricular activities and student leadership opportunities at KIS to for further development.
Year 12 Transition to Year 13: 16th to 30th June. With exams over, Year 12 start their Year 13 studies.
Year 6 to 7 Transition Days: 22nd to 24th June. Year 6 students join Secondary to get the full experience before they join formally in August. During the three days they go to a wide range of lessons, moving between classrooms and following the six period day, taking break and lunchtime at the same time as Secondary students. It is also an opportunity for the teachers to get to know the students. We have assemblies with the students, and meetings with Year 6 parents.
More information will be sent out to involved students and parents in due course for each of these events, and for others that will be happening this term.
