From the Head of Secondary 04.04.2020

The last two weeks have been a very challenging time for the community but ultimately it has shown its strength by coming together to ensure that teaching and learning continues. Whilst it’s not entirely possible to replicate everything in the virtual world everybody has got on board to create interesting and exciting lessons and activities for the students to enjoy. For some students it has been a real test. Logging in, participating, and completing work hasn’t always been easy but most have risen to the challenge consistently well. Any who have fallen behind and not managed to complete all assignments must work on these over the next two weeks so that they can start afresh next term, whether that he online or back in school.

It has been particularly difficult for our senior students in Years 11, 12 and 13 as they adjust to the fact that there will be no exams this year. The leadership team and Secondary teachers have been working hard to support them at this time. From a practical point of view we are following the Cambridge Exam Board’s advice and directives. Students will receive grades and certificates and they will be of equal value to those their predecessors were awarded. We are keeping in close contact with those students and will continue to do so moving forward.

We are still accepting applications to Year 12 and we have extended the deadline for Sixth Form scholarship applications to the end of April. If you are in Year 11 and you have not yet applied to Year 12 and wish to do so, please contact Ms Tina at tinak@kis.edu.my or Mr Ian Barker ianbarker@kis.edu.my.

At this point we do not know when we will be back in school and able to see each other again but we can be confident that whatever happens the community will continue to work together for the benefit of the students.

I would like to wish you all a really good break. Stay safe and happy!

Mrs Margaret Renshaw
