From the Head of Primary 30.11.2019
We have had an extraordinarily busy week in Primary. Sports Day was a fantastic event and enjoyed by all in Primary. Highlights of the event to follow next week.
On Tuesday, the children in Year 1 enjoyed a trip to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park where they had the amazing opportunity to learn about the wild animals of Borneo. On their return to school, the children were full of fascinating facts and couldn’t wait to share their learning with me. I was very impressed by what they had remembered and the children were able to teach me a thing or two.
Wednesday was an extra busy day for the Year 2 children who not only took part in Global Goals Day but did it dressed as pirates! They walked the plank, climbed the rigging and prepared a delicious fruit salad to prevent scurvy.
Global Goals Day was a huge success and it made me feel very proud of our primary students who embraced the 17 sustainable goals and considered how they could take action. I hope that your children came home and were able to share their learning with you.
Next week promises to be another busy week in school with various events and activities taking place. Please remember to check Class Dojo for year group arrangements. On Tuesday the school choir will be performing Christmas carols at Le Meridien 6.45 – 7.10. Performers, who will have received a letter from Ms Grace, will need to arrive at 6.15 in order to give them time to warm up their vocal chords and prepare for the performance. Term 1.2 reports will be sent to home to parents on Friday 6th December and the Christmas fair will take place on Saturday 7th December 10.00 – 2.00. We are still hoping to receive your kind donations for the tombola and raffle. If you are able to support, please contact myself or Ann Chinn. As we celebrate our children’s achievements every week in assembly, there will not be a separate celebration assembly during the last week of term. In order to avoid lost curriculum time, all end of term certificates and awards will be presented during our regular assembly slot on Friday 6th December.
Please see below for other events. More details will follow for each separate event.

Year 1 Trip to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park

On Tuesday 26th November, year 1 embarked upon an exciting adventure to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park to learn all about animals native to Borneo. Upon arrival at the park, the children headed straight to see the Pygmy elephants, just in time for their breakfast. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to feed the elephants, all whilst the zoo keeper told us some very interesting facts about these mammals.
Leo
“The pygmy elephants are the smallest elephants in the world. I liked throwing the carrots because it is fun.”
“Elephants can swim.”
We then visited the sun bears, the smallest bears in the world!
Jeong Hoo
“Sunbear can stand up. They are small bears.”
Dylan
“I liked to see the sunbear because he’s got a flat neck. I know they live in Borneo in the wild.”
We also saw a tiger, orang utan, proboscis monkeys and many others wonderful animals, but the highlight for the children was probably the animal show. During the show we learned about the bear cat, civet, python and macaw.
Alya
“Parrots can lie down. They can fly. The black bird (minor bird) tweets and says meow!”
A great day was had by all and the year 1 children were fantastic ambassadors for KIS.
