From the Head of Primary 28.11.2020
Our assembly on Friday really was an opportunity to celebrate so many things that make me proud to be the Head of Primary at KIS. Not only have our children done an amazing job of rising to the challenge of remote learning but they also continue to contribute to life beyond the classroom. As you know, a few weeks ago, the Primary Student Council were tasked with collating ideas for Wellbeing Wednesday. They did a great job of speaking to the children in their respective classes during registration and with Mrs Mullen’s help collated all of their ideas which were shared with you on Dojo. Shreedevi and Eloise from Year 6 have also been busy and had the brilliant idea of creating a KIS book of inspirational quotes. They first arranged a video call with me to talk about their idea and then presented their idea in assembly. Next week Shreedevi and Eloise will meet with Ms Lisa from Marketing and learn how to put together everyone’s contributions into a book that can be shared with the community. Thank you to everyone who took part. I really am looking forward to seeing the end product.
More recently we have been celebrating International and Global Goals week and the children have enjoyed listening to our guest speakers after school. We have been lucky enough to hear from Re-grow Borneo, Scuba Zoo, Scuba Junkie and Ruth Yapp who gave an inspirational talk about Zero Waste. The children have not only been learning about sustainable development this week but have also taken part in a number of activities for International Week. I have really enjoyed looking at the children’s Dojo posts and in particular listening to the retelling of well-known traditional stories. Some children really did go above and beyond and submitted informative videos to the PTA all about their native country. Well done everyone!
The children’s latest challenge was set by Mr Fletcher on Friday and will be this week’s House Challenge. As a finale to Movember, Mr Fletcher would like to get the children involved by encouraging them to sport some facial furniture in the shape of a moustache during their online lessons next week. Mrs Fletcher will post a folder of printable moustaches for you to use if you wish or alternatively get creative with paint, pens and makeup to create your own. Please post your photos here https://www.kis.edu.my/upload/ It’s Mo fun to do online learning at KIS!

Finally, from Monday we invite our children (and family) to join us every morning at 07.45 for Wellbeing Wake Up. Each morning the children will have 2 or 3 choices available to them for some early morning exercise. We have noticed that some children have been finding it difficult to get going in the mornings and arrive late for registration at 8am. We hope that our early morning exercise sessions will get everyone motivated and are a great way to start the day. The timetable will be posted on Dojo before Monday. Just click on the link which will take you to your chosen session.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Joanne Smith
Head of Primary
