From the Head of Primary 24.04.2021
During the week beginning June 14th we will be holding an Activities Week in Primary. Usually, during a normal school year children will have the opportunity to take part in a number of after school clubs, trips and residentials, however, as we know this year has been very different and we have been unable to provide these opportunities. In order to try and address this, we have decided to take a whole week off timetable and together we will be exploring, adventuring and experiencing a range of fun events and activities inside and outside of the classroom. During the trips and activities we will be following our usual SOP and Health and Safety risk assessments will be carried out as usual. Here is a brief summary of the exciting opportunities that each year group have planned for the week.
Early Years
The children will have fun with the Bomba in school and will have the opportunity to climb inside and explore a real-life fire engine as well as have a go on the fire hose. Later in the week they will have a pizza party and come to school dressed as clowns and will finish the week with a movie, lunch and bowling at Sutera Harbour.
Year One
For Year One the week will begin with a hike up Bukit Padang and team building games at the top. On Tuesday they will visit Tao Art Studio and have a go at hand-building ceramics. On Wednesday they will visit the Aquascape Centre and on Thursday will visit the Wetlands Centre where they will take a mangrove walk, and try bird watching and life drawing. Finally on Friday they will enjoy a movie and make their own popcorn with different toppings.
Year Two
Year Two will have the opportunity to become rangers for the day at the Rasa Ria Hotel and Nature Reserve. The children will learn about conservation and rehabilitation and will explore the canopy and walkways. Later on in the week they will visit a local museum where they will find out about different indigenous species found in the rainforests of Sabah. Finally, they will hike up Bukit Pandang and observe natural and local wildlife.
Year Three
Year Three are planning an overnight trip to Long Pakou survival camp in Kiulu. They will enjoy bushwalking and learn basic survival skills while looking at local plants that can be used in cooking.
Year Four
Year Four will be going on a two-day trip. One to the Adventure centre where they will experience zip lining, jungle trekking and team building activities and the other to Manukan Island where they will go on a snorkelling safari and learn how mangroves help protect against natural disasters. Later on in the week local artists will come into school and teach the children about recycled art.
Year Five
Year Five have planned a two day one night trip to Gaya and Manukan Island where children will take part in a range of activities including snorkelling, hiking through the rainforest. They will also be involved in a number of presentations relating to their eco-tourism topic.
Year Six
Year Six will enjoy a three day glamping trip to Dinawan Island off the coat of Kinarut. Activities will include snorkeling, hiking and team building challenges. Children will share rooms and the cost of the trip will include transport, boat transfers, accommodation activities and all meals.
As you will understand, staff invest a lot of time and effort in organising any event and before any plans are finalised either myself or class teachers would like to hear from you should you have any worries or concerns about your child taking part in the activities on offer.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
