From the Head of Primary 23.01.2021
Over the years there has been much research carried out into the importance of parent-teacher partnerships and the importance of this relationship cannot be underestimated. For teachers, being able to communicate with parents helps them better understand a child’s strengths and their own individual personality and learning style. The more information that they have about a students, the more teachers can focus on teaching and being able to address and overcome challenges along the way that may be unique to each child. Ultimately both teachers and parents want the best for their children and by working in partnership this can certainly be achieved resulting in numerous positive advantages.
- Improved academic achievement
- A more positive attitude towards learning
- A feeling of empowerment and confidence
- Enhanced relationships with parents, peers and teachers
- Regular class attendance.
In order to support the home-school link we offer parents a number of opportunities throughout the year to receive updates on their child’s progress in school.
| Beginning of Term 1 | Presentation to parents given by the year group teaching team |
| Beginning of Term 1 | Parent/Teacher Settling in Meetings |
| End of Term 1 | Written interim report |
| Term 2.1 | Parent/Teacher Meetings |
| End of Term 2 | Written interim report |
| End of Term 2 | End of year full written report |
In addition to this, we operate an open door policy whereby you are always welcome to make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher at any time throughout the school year. Although our classroom doors are temporarily shut, you are always welcome to contact your child’s teacher via email or Dojo to arrange a face to face video call if there is anything that you want to discuss.
Term 2 Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place on 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th February and will be conducted online. These meetings are an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress, strengths and areas for development. On Monday 25th January, your class teacher will be in touch with their available time slots and you will be able to sign up remotely on a Google Doc. The link to the Doc will be shared on your class Dojo page. Each meeting will last for approximately ten minutes and we ask you to keep to time as links for each meeting will be arranged in advance.
As we head into the weekend don’t forget to log your distances for Ms Watt’s Get up and MOVE challenge. In assembly this morning, Ms Watt instructed the children to tie their parents up this weekend as they are currently beating the teachers with their accumulated distance. The home-school relationship is important but we can’t have parents beating the teachers!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
