From the Head of Primary 20.11.2021

The primary staff are counting down the days until the students are physically back in school. We are super excited to be teaching in person again. I, for one, cannot wait to walk around the classrooms and feel the familiar (or should I say unfamiliar)  ‘buzz’ of students busy at work. Earlier this week, you will have received a letter about the procedures we have put in place to ensure the safety of our community. However, do remember, if you or your child have any concerns or anxiety about the return to school, please contact me: khitchen@kis.edu.my, your child’s class teacher or Ms Siti: snaim@kis.edu.my.

I am very happy to finally welcome our Year 1 teacher, Megan Siddall, to Malaysia. She is very relieved to be here and she also cannot wait to meet everyone in person. Thank you to Miss Madonna and the Y1 students and parents for giving her such a warm welcome on Wednesday.

This week the ‘Spotlight is on….

Year 4’

In our ‘Lost Civilisations’ unit, we have been learning all about different nations, empires, tribes and groups of individuals that have been lost to time. We have discovered the buried city of Pompeii, a once thriving and sophisticated Roman city. In 79AD Pompeii was decimated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We have travelled back in time as intrepid reporters in an attempt to uncover more about what happened on that fateful day. We have interviewed the devastated survivors and are in the process of writing interesting, yet sombre newspaper reports.

In Maths we have been working with money and learning about the different denominations from our home and host countries. We have been calculating totals and working out the change that should be given from a set amount. We realised that working with money is not really any different to working with other decimal numbers and it is just the unit of measure that has changed.

Y4 are all really excited to be going back to school next week and look forward to meeting our new classmates.

Take a look at some of our students carrying out ‘Random Acts of Kindness’:

Well done to them and I look forward to seeing more ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ in school this coming week.

Next week, our fabulous F1 teacher, Mrs Garrick, will be hosting an online workshop on Learning through Play at 1pm on Thursday 25th November. This is for parents interested in learning more about how we structure learning in Early Years and KS1. More information will be put on Class Dojo next week.

Finally, If your child needs a new uniform, you can purchase it online at https://shop.kis.edu.my/ and it will be available to collect any day next week during these times: 7.30am-8.30am and 2.00pm-3.00pm.

As well, if you borrowed a school laptop for online learning, please return to a member of the IT department who will be available at the school entrance on Monday between 7.15am-7.45am and 1.45pm-2.15pm. Please ensure you sign to prove you have returned the laptop for our records.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Take care.
