From the Head of Primary 13.05.2023

Welcome to the final half-term of the academic year. There is so much planned for our last seven weeks and I am super excited to end the year in such a jam-packed, fun-filled learning environment with a wonderful team of teachers and students. I have been lucky enough to spend time in classrooms this week to see, first hand, some of the amazing learning that is happening. Y1 have been learning about The Gingerbread Man story, Y2 halving, Y3 branching databases, Y4 rainforests, Y5 persuasive letters and Y6 The Highwayman poem.

However, this week the Spotlight is on……

EYFS & THE EVIL PEA

Dear KIS community,

We do not wish to alarm you but, THERE’S AN EVIL PEA ON THE LOOSE! Before you descend into panic, please take comfort in the fact that you are in the excellent hands of the EYFS children, AKA THE SUPERHEROES!!! This week the children have been designing and making their superhero capes and masks which has involved them using many skills including writing, measuring, cutting, joining, problem solving, and of course, imagining. They have used both the large and the small construction to make getaway vehicles. They have solved superhero puzzles and practised tying up evil pea so that they are ready for when they finally capture him. The children are almost fully trained superheroes so please rest assured that they will capture Evil Pea before too long and peace will be restored at KIS once more.

Kind regards,

The EYFS super team

The Year 5 and Year 6 students were very excited on Tuesday morning as they were about to jet off to Thailand for the FOBISIA Primary Games. They have had some great success so far with a number of bronze and silver awards but as the games were still ongoing at the time of writing this, you will have to wait to read all about their great achievements in full detail next week in Miss Watt’s newsletter. However, I would like to say a massive well done to every student who took part and gave their all and a huge thank you to Miss Watt for organising and taking the students on this fabulous experience and to Mr Shaw, Ms Goldie and Mrs Schrijver for supporting this trip.

In our weekly assembly, we talked about what communities mean and the different communities we are a part of. This also led to a discussion about our school community and the responsibilities we have to look after each other and our school around us. The student Council have been busy continuing to support our play at lunchtimes and although we can’t take part in outdoor activities currently, they have planned for a range of zoned areas to be introduced as soon as we can. Mrs Fletcher introduced a new initiative ‘Random acts of kindness’. Find out more about this in the community section of the newsletter. Certificates were awarded for Stars of the Week, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Head Teacher’s Awards. Birthdays were celebrated and the Trashless Class winners were Y6!

A reminder that primary students must be collected by parents or a designated adult from the class pickup points at 2pm or from the ECA leader at 3pm. Primary children will not be allowed to leave school by themselves, parents must park and collect. If parents have not arrived within 10 minutes, students will be taken to the PASS club and a charge will be made to parents for this. Thank you for your understanding in helping us to keep your children safe.

Another reminder that PASS Club is only for students with siblings in secondary school.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Fun Run on the 28th May.

Finally I would like to extend a very warm welcome to a new student and his family who joined us this week:

Aman in Y1

Have a wonderful weekend

Take care.
