From the Head of Primary 09.09.2023

It has been a wonderful week in Primary. I have been able to spend some time in each class throughout the week and I really got a sense that all students have settled into their learning and are working super hard.

We are only on week four, but we still have five weeks left of the half term and lots to look forward to. Many trips are already in the planning stages, with staff working incredibly hard to create memorable learning experiences for all the children across Primary.

Another Friday and another celebration assembly! Over the last few weeks we have been discussing the concept of student leadership and what it means to be a leader in the classroom. This included discussing the Primary Behaviour Agreement with their teachers and friends.

The students had great ideas about what they could do to demonstrate that they are caring, respectful, achieving their full potential and being a global citizen. You may have noticed your child coming home with stickers that represent each of these behaviours. Please talk to them about what they did to achieve their sticker so that we are working together to ensure our children are embodying our school mission statement.

As usual we celebrated the Stars of the Week, who went above and beyond to receive their certificates.

We announced the much anticipated results of the Year 2 and 6 House Captains.

Sulug

Year 2 – Ian and Cato

Year 6 – Sam and Maddie

Gaya

Year 2 – Caelum and Victor

Year 6 – Kaye and Sophia

Sapi

Year 2 – Eden and Sarah

Year 6 – Adel and Hafiz

A big well done to the Year 2 children who gave speeches last week. They were all very brave and super examples of what it means to be a leader!

We also presented the Year 5 and 6 prefects to the primary school. This special group will be working directly with me to ensure smooth, successful and fun lunch times in school. They will take on lead roles, equipment monitors, play leaders and manning our hugely popular lunch waste station. Mr Gipson even met with the students to discuss their importance in the school community.

After assembly, each class heard speeches from their student council candidates. They voted within their classes and shared the results with Mrs Clifford our Student Council leader. We look forward to sharing the successful candidates in assembly next week, and to working with them over the coming year.

Finally, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new students and their families who joined us this week:

Sara and Shawn in F1

Alanna in 2K

Leo in 4K

Mahathir and Jein in 4S

Alya in 5S

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Take care.

Mr Mark Beresford
