From the Head of Primary 09.03.2024
Throughout this week, our students continue to inspire us with their curiosity, resilience, and enthusiasm for learning. We’re committed to nurturing their growth and providing a supportive environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Maths Day is coming up this Thursday! It will be an exciting day filled with a variety of thrilling Maths challenges! Children are encouraged to come dressed up as their favourite mathematician or in a creative outfit featuring symbols and numbers. Let your creativity shine as we celebrate the wonderful world of mathematics!

Last Friday, our Year 1 embarked on a thrilling discovery tour guided by our teachers and outdoor education specialists. From navigating nature trails to learning about the flora and fauna and making shelters:
“As part of our Adventure Awaits topic, Last week Year 1 set out on an adventure of their very own. Like the significant explorers we have been learning about throughout history, the children gained some of their own survival skills at Field Skills Activity Centre in Kiulu Valley.

We began our trip by boarding a bus to take us all the way into the countryside and after arriving the children were excited to meet their wonderful guides Hanry, Nany, Vice and Myriam. At first, the guides took us on an educational walk to learn all about the leaves and flowers and their healing properties for things such as soap, curing headaches, stopping a cut bleeding and easing food poisoning.

Next the children got really stuck in by making and decorating their own shelters out of natural materials, like sticks and huge banana leaves. They learned other basic survival skills such as how to safely drink water by making their own water filter cup out of a leaf. Lastly, the children all watched in awe as our guides made a fire just from using bamboo, coconut husk and dry leaves. We were all so impressed and gathered some leaves ourselves to add to the fire.

Finally, After a delicious lunch, with our minds and bellies full, we said goodbye and headed back to the bus.The children had so much fun in nature, they all fell fast asleep and snoozed the whole way home. A big thankyou to Field Skills in Kiulu Valley for having us!”
On Tuesday, we held our annual ‘Sports Day’ at BSA. It was a day filled with energy, teamwork, and unforgettable moments as our students showcased their athletic prowess and sportsmanship.
The day was a series of thrilling events, including house chants and tug-of-war competitions. Each event was met with cheers and applause, as our students demonstrated not only their physical abilities but also their unwavering support for one another.

It was Inspiring to witness the sportsmanship on display, as students cheered on their classmates, celebrated victories, and embraced the joy of participation.
We extend our gratitude to all the teachers, staff, and Year 10 students who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the event. The biggest thank you must go to Ms Watt for organising the logistics of the day. Her dedication and enthusiasm truly made Sports Day a resounding success!

Additionally this week, we were happy to welcome Ms. Bryce back to the school to reassume her role as 5S class teacher. However, we would also like to thank Mrs. Schrijver. We are very grateful for the support we received from Mrs. Schrijver during her time as a teacher in the 5S class. Mrs. Schrijver’s dedication and commitment to our students have been truly outstanding. She seamlessly stepped into the role, providing guidance, support, and inspiration to the children.
Our assembly theme this week was ‘Counselling and Confidentiality’. We emphasised the significance of seeking support when needed and the assurance of confidentiality in our counselling services. Our school is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where students can openly discuss their concerns, knowing that their privacy and confidentiality are respected.
Congratulations to our exceptional Stars of the Week, for their outstanding contributions to our school community. Whether it’s lending a helping hand to classmates, demonstrating kindness, or excelling academically. Well done!
Through conscious efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainability, our students are making a positive impact on the environment and cultivating a culture of responsibility and stewardship. Together, we’re taking small steps towards a greener, cleaner future.
A celebration for our talented athletes who were recognised with Liga Suparimau awards for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship. You have shown amazing dedication, determination, and teamwork.
As we reflect on the themes of counselling, confidentiality, and achievement, let’s continue to foster a culture of support, respect, and recognition within our school community. Together, we can empower each other to thrive and grow.
As we enter the blessed month of Ramadan, we want to ensure that our school community is well-informed and supportive of our fasting students. It is essential for parents to communicate with their child’s class teacher about their fasting schedule. This will enable us to keep a close eye on fasting students and provide necessary accommodations as needed. Your cooperation in informing us about your child’s fasting routine is greatly appreciated and will help us ensure their well-being and comfort. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing the growth and success of the children. As always, your dedication and involvement in our school community are truly appreciated.
Wishing you a fantastic weekend filled with laughter, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones!
Warm regards,
Matthew Hayward

Rice Collection for Ramadan
The Holy month of Ramadan is a time to reflect upon and show compassion for the poor and less fortunate.
In the past few years, the KIS community has generously donated rice to the Masjid Nurul Hikmah Mosque, next to the school.
This year the MFL department and the Charity Committee would like to continue this tradition and as such we will be collecting bags of rice, to be distributed for Hari Raya. If you so wish, you can leave your donation at the guard house until Wednesday 20th March.

Your generosity will be much appreciated.
Just an added note for your information, During the Holy month of Ramadan, students who are fasting and do not wish to sit outdoors will have the option of going to Cikgu Noraineh’s classroom at lunchtime. Those wanting to pray will also be welcome to do so.
