From the Head of Primary 04.02.2023
Welcome to Term 2.2!
I hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday. It’s great to have everyone back at school and ready to start another exciting half term. It has been a quiet week at school, classes have continued as usual, with students engaged in learning and teachers working hard to provide the best education possible. Take a look at some of the fabulous work that has been happening across the primary school.
This week, in our celebration assembly, we began to talk about relationships and the different types of families that we all live in. We celebrated the Stars of the Week and gave out Bronze, Silver and Gold awards!

Tuesday, 7th February is Safer Internet Day (SID). This is an annual event celebrated globally to raise awareness about internet safety and the responsible use of technology. The event promotes a safer and better internet for all users, particularly children and young people. The goal is to empower individuals and communities to work together to create a safer and more secure online environment. During Safer Internet Day, various organisations, including schools, governments, and non-profits, participate in events and activities that highlight the importance of online safety and security. The day serves as a reminder of the need to stay vigilant and protect ourselves and others while using the internet, and encourages everyone to take steps to promote a safer internet.
The internet provides countless opportunities for learning, communication, and entertainment for children. However, it also presents potential dangers, such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and online predators. That’s why it’s important to educate your children on how to use the internet safely. We will be discussing the importance of staying safe online with your children next Tuesday but here are some tips to help you ensure your children have a safer online experience:
- Supervise their internet use and monitor their online activities regularly.
- Teach your children to never share personal information, such as full name, address, phone number, or financial information, with strangers online.
- Encourage them to only use websites, apps, and social media platforms that are age-appropriate.
- Talk to your children about the potential dangers of cyberbullying and how to respond if they or someone they know is being bullied online.
- Explain the importance of being mindful of the information and content they post online, as it can have long-lasting effects.
- Set limits on the amount of time your children can spend online and make sure they take breaks to engage in other activities.
- Discuss online privacy and security and encourage your children to use strong passwords and regularly update them.
By following these steps and having open and honest conversations with your children, you can help them navigate the internet safely and responsibly.
Don’t forget to Drop Off and Drop In for our coffee morning on Wednesday at 8am in the MPR. This one will be about assessment and reporting.

Yesterday you should have received an email regarding our upcoming Primary Learning Conferences during the week of 13th February. Please read this carefully as it explains how the Primary Learning Conferences work for each stage of the primary school. Next week, on Monday, your child’s class teacher will post a sign up sheet for these on Class Dojo so please look out for this.
Finally, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the two new students and their families who joined us in primary this week:
Chaewon in F2
Seojin in Y1
Have a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
Ms Karen Hitchen
