MSSD and MSSS News

Tennis:

Three Secondary students took to the tennis courts at Likas on a very hot Tuesday to compete at the MSSD Tennis championships. Iden (8K) played two matches in the U15 Boys category, winning both to progress through to the semi-finals of the competition. Playing against the top seed, Iden unfortunately lost 2-7. However, finishing in 3rd place meant that he successfully qualified for the next level to compete at MSSS.

In the U18 Boys category, Ethan and Amar were competing in a small but very strong field. Both won their first round matches to progress to the semi-finals. Disappointingly, both lost but still finished in 3rd and 4th place. Ethan narrowly lost his match 6-7 against the eventual champion. Both Iden and Amar also succeeded in qualifying for the MSSS State Championships that will be played next week from the 11th-13th March.

Best of luck to Iden, Ethan and Amar as they carry on in the next stage of the competition.

FOBISIA Games Update

Next week we see students traveling to both Hua Hin in Thailand and Kuala Lumpur for two FOBISIA sporting invitational events.

Departing very early on Monday 11th March, seven Students from Year 5 to Year 9 will represent KIS at the FOBISIA Golf Championships being organised by Shrewsbury International School and being played at the award winning course of Black Mountain Resort. As well as the usual championship prizes up for grabs, this year’s tournament has an even bigger incentive with the opportunity to win a spot in the Asia Pacific Junior Open hosted at Laguna National Golf & Country Club (Singapore) this April.

Our golfers have certainly had a lot of opportunities to get extra time on the green in over the last to\wo weeks with many of them competing in the MSSD and MSSS Golf Championships.

We wish them all the best as they take on some of the best golfers within the FOBISIA network.

FOBISIA Golfers: Caleb, Nicholas, Liam, Benedict, Angelina, Chanel and Timothy

Additionally, in a first for KIS, two Year 11 students will be competing in the FOBISIA Climbing Invitational taking place from the 13th-16th March in Kuala Lumpur. Both Aleksis and Pascal have been honing their skills in KK as well as making trips to KL, where they have previously climbed at the “Camp 5” Climbing center in KL where the event will take place.

Both students are very excited to have the opportunity to compete in both ‘top roping’ and ‘bouldering’ events at the competition.

We look forward to hearing all about their experience upon their return.
