Sutera Harbour Swim Meet
On Saturday 22nd June, 23 KIS Stingrays’ swimmers attended the Sutera Harbour Swim Meet accompanied by Miss Watt, Ms Westaway and Ms Beltran. Making their ‘Stingrays debut’ were four new swimmers; Chency, Mabel, Madi and Sunny, who were supported by not only the coaches, but also the more experienced Stingrays’ swimmers throughout the whole day.
The day started with the individual 50m races, followed by 100m races and finally special races with kickboard as well as a new addition to the program, a lifesaving relay. Stingrays’ swimmers gave their best efforts in all their races and were rewarded with lots of personal best times recorded and medals won. The weather looked a bit unsteady half way through the competition, but luckily the rain stayed away and the competition could be completed. This year the event also included a lifesaving relay, where the first person in the team had to swim 50m freestyle, the second swimmer swam 50m with fins, the third person swam 50m with fins and a rescue tube and the last swimmer swam 50m with fins while towing the first swimmer. Our Stingrays bravely took on the challenge and were rewarded by taking second place in the race!
Overall the day was filled with laughter and tears, smiling faces and disappointed faces like any swim competition will always have! All the Stingrays swimmers should be proud of their achievements during the day and more importantly, of all the hard work, training and dedication that they’ve put in to their beloved sport over such an extended period of time. The improvement I have seen during the two years that I have had the pleasure of coaching the Stingrays is tremendous!
Congratulations and a huge thank you also needs to go to all the Stingrays parents for their continuous support and time that they offer to the Stingrays club and their children. Without you the children wouldn’t be able to participate in their swimming training and competitions and make the progress that they do and experience the moments that they do every time they enter the pool whether it be training or a competition. Thank you!

KIS Cup
While the real World Cup continues in France having reached the knockout end of the competition, the KIS Cup came to a wonderful conclusion on Wednesday with the final round of matches being played in the Year 5 and 6 competition.
At the end of the 5 round competition the positions on the ladder determined the overall medal winnings, and boy was it close!
Both USA and The Netherlands finished the competition on equal points having won a game, tied twice and lost 1 match. Having drawn the game against each other it came down to goal difference in which case it was the USA who just won out to take 2nd place and leaving The Netherlands to collect 3rd. The champions of the competition, England, had been consistent throughout the tournament and showed in the last game why they were such a great team; demonstrating effective teamwork, skill and positive support for each other to win their last match. Could this England win be a premonition of victories to come for the England women’s team currently doing very well in the tournament? We will have to wait and see!
At the end of the final matches medals were presented to the winners of both competitions. I hope all the students who took part in the competition enjoyed the experience regardless of the results. It was wonderful to see the improvement in skill and understanding of positioning when playing during the course of the competition as well to see the enthusiastic support on the sidelines and excitement from all involved.
We look forward to be able to run more lunch time competitions in the future!
Be sure to catch some of the games in the Women’s World Cup as well before it ends!

Golfing success for Timothy Lei across Asia
Timothy of 9S has had a very busy and successful couple of weeks playing in some of Asia’s top Junior Golf Tournaments.
Last week Timothy was crowned the Malaysian Junior Champion after his victory in the second leg of the Malaysian Junior Premium Elite Golf Circuit 2019 hosted by Melaka Afamosa Golf and Country Club.
He then followed this up with a very impressive victory at the Singapore Junior Golf Championship, one of the most competitive tournaments for junior golfers in Asia.
It is wonderful to see the high degree of dedication and commitment that Tim demonstrates for his sport paying off with such impressive results. On behalf of the KIS community, we would like to congratulate Tim on his most recent achievements and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next!
