Secondary Sports Day Tuesday 5th December – Save the date!!
This term has been flying by faster than Usain Bolt in the 100m and we have already seen a wide array of wonderful events happening both in and out of school. One of the marquee events for PE and Sport on the calendar each year is of course our Secondary Sports Day. All secondary parents should have received a letter this week containing all the details for the day.

The anticipation and excitement for the day is building, and during the week I met with our talented House Leadership team who will play a key role in seeing which House walks away triumphant. In addition to the traditional athletic events of running, throwing and jumping, there will also be some additional fun ‘drop in’ house challenges for students to get involved in and add to their house point totals.
A reminder that this is a compulsory school day and ALL secondary students are expected to attend unless unable to due to illness.
Key details are:
When: Tuesday 5th December
Where: Likas Athletics Stadium
Time: Students go directly to the stadium to arrive by 7:40am and are to be picked up promptly at the end of the day at 1:00pm.
Parents are of course welcome, and indeed encouraged to come and cheer on the athletes and we look forward to seeing some of you don your trainers for the traditional staff vs parents relay on the day.
Athletic success in the RS Kinabalu League
One student to look out for on the 5th December is Dashie Ong in Year 8. She has already smashed the school record for high jump and is sure to challenge for a lot more medals and potentially see more school records broken at Sports Day.
For the past few months the talented hurdler has competed in five athletic meets as part of the RS Athletics Club Competitions for 2023.
These 5 circuits consisted of RS Kinabalu League 1, League 2, League 3, Berwang Open and Tuaran Athletic.
Dashie performed with great distinction throughout the series recording personal best times in the following classification in the Under 12 category
: 100m @ 13.61sec
: 200m @ 28.60sec
: 80m hurdle @ 13.79sec
: 4 x 100m @ 54.43sec
: 4 x 200m @ 1min.56.95sec
Dashie is highly motivated and dedicated in trying to improve her athletics performances and is currently training under ex-Malaysian hurdles coach. I am sure we will be seeing and hearing more about her achievements in the future.
