SAG Success for KIS students

It was a hugely successful weekend of swimming at the 53rd Sabah Age Group Swimming Championships held at Likas Pool from Friday 10th-Sunday 13th January.
Approximately 20 students from KIS from as young as Year 2 to Year 10 were present at the major meet representing their swim clubs.
Speaking to children throughout the week, it was apparent that all enjoyed the experience of competing tremendously and were extremely proud of their personal achievements, whether it be setting new personal best times or simply overcoming the nervousness of competing in their first big swim meet.
Many of the students picked up medals in individual or relay events but a few students deserve a special mention for their exceptionally high achievements.
Siwon (Year 5) and Freya (Year 10), who will both be representing KIS at the upcoming FOBISIA Swimming Championships, were successful in qualifying for the Malaysian National Age Group Championships in their respective age groups. While Emmanuel (Year 5), not only also qualified but managed to finish as the 1st Runner Up in his age group. Which given the high level of competition present and that this was just his first year competing in the event was a tremendous achievement.
On behalf of the wider KIS community, I extend a massive congratulations to all the students who took part in the meet. Well done to all!!
Timothy Lei continues his championship winning success
Another student who is a fine example of what dedication to the pursuit of one’s dreams can do is Timothy (Year 10).
We were thrilled to receive news at the start of the week that Timothy has enjoyed yet more success having been crowned the overall Malaysian Junior Champion, winning 5 awards at the Malaysian Junior Closed and SportExcel – MSN Malaysian Junior Golf Circuit Grand Finals held at the Negeri Sembilan International Golf Club. Most impressive was that Timothy beat players much older than himself as it was an U21 age group and Timothy is still just 14 years of age!
You may have seen a wonderful article this week in the Borneo Post about all of Timothy’s achievements as well as his personal goals for developing his golf further via admittance to a US College or academy in the future.
Congratulations Timothy on your latest achievements and I am confident it will not be the last we hear and see from him this year on the golf course.
The pursuit of success in any field requires a great deal of dedication and quite often sacrifice as well. It is worth mentioning though that whilst many of the students pictured and mentioned in this weeks newsletter are talented and dedicated in their chosen sports that they also participate and contribute in a wide range of curricula and extra-curricular activities across the school in other areas. Whether it be taking part in FOBISIA sports teams, school leadership roles such as House Captains or Student Council reps, participating in MUN or even music and drama performances.
Participating in a broad range of activities and events enable students to explore their talents and develop into more well rounded individuals.
