EYFS & KS1 Swimming Gala 2019

On Friday 14th June, over 100 eager little students from Reception through Year 2 gathered together at the outdoor pool at Likas for their KIS Swimming Gala 2019!

There was a hint of nerves amongst some of the swimmers but most were excited for the races and events to come. The students had been challenging themselves to be confident in the water and practising their swimming skills throughout the year. Now was the time to show everyone what they had learnt.

The day started with a fun obstacle course in the shallow end of the pool, where everyone got to demonstrate their confidence and speed in the water. The following Sea Horse race is a favourite race, especially among the younger Reception and Foundation 1 students. Everyone lead their noodle sea horses to the end of the race with a big smile on their faces and a lot of cheering from the side of the pool. After these joyful races, the youngest students had finished their gala, and were pleased to go home with a golden medal around their neck.

After fueling themselves with snacks and water, the students from Foundation 2 through Year 2 were ready to continue the gala with numerous individual races. The parents were treated to noodle and kickboard races as well as swimming races without a floating device. The students were definitely showing their best stroke techniques and swimming skills in freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke races and we could even witness advanced butterfly races!

Every student received a well-deserved golden medal for their tremendous efforts during the day as well as a hefty amount of points for their respective houses; Gaya, Sapi and Sulug.

Thank you to the plentiful parents and guardians who came to the gala and cheered for all the swimmers and to all the staff who supported the students throughout the whole day with a smile on their face. Not to forget the true stars of the event; all the students from Reception through Year 2 who made the EYFS & KS1 Swimming Gala 2019 such a joyful and memorable day!
