MSSD Golf
Over the CNY break 8 students from KIS competed at the MSSD Golf Event held at the Karambunai Golf Club.
It was an early start with players arriving at 6:30am, just as the sun was coming up over the surrounding hills, to register and get a little warm-up and practice on the putting green in before teeing off at 7:30am.
Competing in the U15 Boys age group there were 5 students: Timothy (10S), Ben (9K), David (9K), Allen (8K) and Nicholas (8S) and in the U15 Girls division Angelina (10S).
It was a highly successful day for KIS with 4 of 6 students receiving awards and 3 students qualifying for the next level of competition to represent KK at the MSS Sabah Championships. Timothy and Angelina were both champions for their divisions while Ben finished runner-up and David was 5th place.
On Thursday, Caleb (6S) and Brandon (7S) took part in the U12 Boys Division tournament that was played out over 9 holes. Caleb was also successful in qualifying to represent KK after finishing in 3rd Place.
This coming week, will see the students travel to Karambunai again for the MSS Sabah Championships being held on Tuesday 11th February and Wednesday 12th February. Good luck to all players as they try to gain selection to represent Sabah at the MSS Malaysia Championship.
Badminton News

Over the weekend, Kon Yi (10K) and Kon Han (8K) took part in a major Badminton Tournament held in Tawau that involved over 450 players. Both performed exceptionally well with Kon Yi finishing 3rd in the U16 Doubles Tournament while Kon Han was crowned U14 Doubles Champion with her badminton partner and also finished 3rd in the singles tournament.
These results meant that both Kon Han and Kon Yi were selected to represent Sabah in the 100Plus National Junior Circuit 2020 that will consist of 2 rounds being played in Selangor during March and then Kedah in July. This is a national tournament where players have the opportunity to play against the best junior players throughout Malaysia. A wonderful and exciting opportunity for both students and so we wish them well with their training and look forward to hearing about their progress in the competition.
Also this week, we had a few students taking part in both the U15 and U18 MSSD KK Badminton event hosted by KK High School for the U18’s and SMJ Shan Tao for the U15’s.
In the U18’s Wi Xie Heng (10K) and Clement (9K) teamed up in the doubles but unfortunately were not able to progress past the 1st round. Heng, also took part in the singles tournament but was knocked out by a higher ranking opponent. Nevertheless, a a good experience for both players.
From Wednesday to Friday, the U15 tournament had Kon Han and Kon Yi on the Badminton courts again following their exhaustive efforts over the weekend.
Kon Yi won his first match in a close 3 set match but was unlucky to come up against his own doubles partner in the round of 16, going down 13-21, 14-21
Kon Han, cruised her way to the Girls U15 Final winning all her matches comfortably in straight sets. In the final on Friday, she faced off against the tournaments top seed and was successful in beating her older opponent in two games 21-14 and 21-15 in a very strong and skillful display. This means that Kon Han will proceed to represent KK at the MSS Sabah Championships.
Congratulations to all the students who represented KIS at the tournaments throughout the week.
Football and Basketball Gala Day: Saturday 15th February
Next Saturday 15th February, KIS will be a buzzing hive of activity as we run a Primary Football Gala Day as well as a Basketball Gala Day to help give our Primary and U13 FOBISIA Teams some valuable competition experience. Students from the Indonesian International School will join in the event together with other non-FOBISIA students in both primary and U13’s.
It is sure to be a fun day of friendly competitions and I must say thank you to the PTA and also Secondary Student Council who have kindly offered their time on the day to sell drinks, food and much needed ice-creams to all those in attendance.
