Summer Fair 2022

Our Summer Fair is coming soon on Saturday, 25th June 2022, from 9 am – 1 pm. There will be lots of activities for our students to participate in, such as face painting, karaoke, indoor and outdoor games, and our favourite event of the day, ‘Sponge the Teachers’, by the Secondary Student Council.

As we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary next year, this year’s Summer Fair will be raising funds for the celebration. Tickets for the games only are available to purchase at the front office, or from Ms Ann. It will cost RM 10 per ticket of ten stamps.

We are also looking for interested vendors to participate in this event; booths are limited, so if you are interested, please get in touch with Ms Ann at ann@kis.edu.my for more information. (Special rate for our KIS community applied)

Plastic bottles

Well done everyone! We have achieved and exceeded our target of collecting 1000 plastic bottles for Green Shoots to help them build their recycled greenhouse at Tanjung Aru Marine Ecosystems Centre TAME.

On Sunday I met with Elaina at TAME who started the project during lockdown. She had planted seedlings in individual bottles and this gave her the idea of building a ‘plastic’ greenhouse.

I handed over a few hundred more bottles which we put into the fabulous ‘Minion’ collection tanks which were created by Japson Wong. TAME have collected 10000 bottles so far which is brilliant.

It’s great that we achieved our goal but equally sad to see that we reached it in such a short time. This just goes to show how much single use plastic we use which was one of the key aims of this project; we don’t know how many people contributed the bottles but that’s an awful lot of plastic!

For those people who do use plastic bottles for water then perhaps you could consider using a water filter on your taps or use the 9 gallon refillable bottles from Aqua Pure water in city Mall which are only MYR5 each and so are a much cheaper and more environmentally friendly option.

We will keep collecting the bottles until the 24th June so thank you in advance!

Dear Parents,

With our school Arts Day (29th June) approaching, I wanted to draw on the artistic prowess of our parent community. As such, I would like to invite you to run an art ‘pop up’ activity at some point throughout the day. These sessions can be anything to do with the arts, including music, dance, art, beading/jewellery making and textiles. Your allocated session will last from 45 minutes to 1 hour, but your activity should only be a quick 10-minute activity that the children will rotate around.

If you think that this is something you would like to take part in, please sign up for a slot on the GoogleDoc linked below. Please include your name, your child’s name and class (so I can get in touch with you to confirm), and what type of activity you will be doing. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via email, at sadams@kis.edu.my
