From the Head of PE and Sport 07.10.2023

In Secondary lessons this week we have been completing some of our first events of Sports Day 2023. In preparation for the day, the House Leadership team did a fantastic job of helping all students select events to take part in. Secondary Sports Day is an opportunity for the whole school to come together, united in supporting their House team with all students contributing to their team points tally and while also giving those students with athletic talent the opportunity to shine and challenge themselves.

We have already seen some fantastic performances. With limited time in PE lessons to master the skills, students have shown amazing courage and determination to take on personal challenges and give their best efforts. We have also already seen a few records broken. Congratulations to the following students who have not only won a gold medal, but also earned 3 valuable bonus points for their House Team totals.

Next week, the Year 9/10 and Year 11-13 High Jump events will take place on the following days.

  • Monday 9th October – Year 9/10 Boys and Girls
  • Wednesday 11th October – Year 11-13 Boys and Girls

All other events will take place on Sports Day which will take place on December 5th. More information to come closer to the day.

Mindfulness Mile

It was wonderful to see both sections of our school come together during the week to participate in the Mindfulness Mile as part of KIS Care Week. As Mr Denyer reminded students before setting off, the aim of the event was not to ‘compete’, although students who wanted to challenge themselves could do so, but rather to have the opportunity to get out of the classroom and enjoy both the physical and mental benefits that physical activity can have on our well-being.

Kicking off Care Week and the Mindfulness Mile, students in Early Years made their way around the field and court during their PE lesson. An impressive effort for small legs to make it all that way guided by their PE teachers Mr Richie and Mr Denyer and supported by Ms Meson and Ms Albert. It was a hot afternoon on Tuesday but the music pumping out of the speaker certainly helped to raise spirits and levels of motivation as students and staff alike made their way around the course. Some chose to enjoy a relaxing walk with friends while chatting, while others sought to see just how many laps they could complete within the timeframe.

On Thursday morning following the wake up shake up, all students from Year 1-6 enjoyed their chance to complete the mile. It was lovely to be able to join in with the Primary school and complete a few laps with students and staff, it was a fantastic feel-good activity for all to be a part of and there were some very sweaty children making their way back to lessons at the end of it!

Thank you to Mr Denyer for coordinating this fantastic event as part of Care Week and reminding us of the importance in making time each day to take part in some form of exercise as part of our well-being self care.
