This week in our assembly, we continued our theme on relationships. Tamara Bromley, one of our parents, came into school to talk about safe relationships. Tamara is passionate about stopping human trafficking and follows a charity called A21. She has completed training courses through the charity. She discussed the following key themes:

  • Trusted or tricky people- who can we trust in our community?
  • How to keep ourselves safe.
  • Safe and unsafe touch.
  • Safe and unsafe secrets.
  • Safe and unsafe photos or videos.

Here are this week’s winners of the Stars of the Week and Silver and Gold awards! We also announced the winners of the Library Lovers, Life thru a Lens competition. Congratulations to all these students.

Year 4 Showcase

On Friday afternoon, our Year 4 students had an incredible opportunity to present their wonderful learning about volcanoes which links into their Active Planet topic.

The afternoon began with a presentation of the non fiction pages written by our students about volcanoes. They had all conducted thorough research on the topic and their work demonstrated their deep understanding of volcanoes, as well as showing how they used the features of non fiction writing and text presentation to help them create their own finished non fiction pages. Individual pages covered topics that included explanations about the 4 stages in a volcanic eruption as well as facts and information about volcanoes on Earth and other planets throughout our solar system. There were even fun pop quizzes for everyone to complete, testing them on what they had learned from the information shared!

After the presentation, students and parents gathered on the school field with the model volcanoes we made over several lessons. Using materials such as recycled bottles, paper, modroc, paint and craft materials, everyone had constructed a realistic model of a volcano and it was wonderful to show off their hard work and amazing creations.

In an exciting (and explosive!) end to the showcase, Year 4 students recreated a volcanic eruption using vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid and food colouring to demonstrate the eruptions! The models erupted beautifully and it was an incredible sight to see!

Thanks to our Secondary Science department who came along to the showcase to demonstrate another chemical reaction and explain what our learning showed about volcanic eruptions!

This showcase was an excellent opportunity for our Year 4 students to demonstrate their creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm for learning. We would like to congratulate all the students for their hard work and effort as well as all the parents who came along to support the event. Well done again Year 4! We can’t wait for more exciting demonstrations of your learning!
