From the Principal 25.02.2023
Dear KIS Community,
Welcome home Vipers, our U13 FOBISIA Team returned home in excellent spirits and very tired from a week of excellent competition in Thailand amongst six international school teams from across Asia. A fantastic experience for our students, one that is not replicable in other schools here in Sabah, and we appreciate our wonderful staff who supported them all the way.
Another fantastic opportunity, for our exam students and aspiring university students, are the annual mock exams. The Year 11s have already completed theirs and next week is the start for Years 12 & 13. The mock exams replicate the real IGCSE & A level exams but in a shorter time space. They give students a very real experience for the exams. A chance to get any mistakes out of the way and learn from their experience. Students and staff can see what areas need extra work whilst we still have time to develop skills and further understanding. An added benefit, is there is no need to keep repeating costly exams every few months and so helps our students get a deeper knowledge of their subjects, which in turn, supports their university study and future success. There is no quick and easy route for an excellent, well rounded and lasting education.
When talking about learning experiences, this past week has been a great opportunity for our future Principal, Mr Sam Gipson, to get to know the school and KK. Mr Gipson arrived last Sunday with his wife and two daughters. Understanding the need for preparation, he spent the week getting to know more about KIS, our staff, students and parents. As a family, they also made sure to spend the time looking around KK to get to know their home to be. All of this groundwork helps to ensure a successful transfer and smooth handover. The KIS Board have made an excellent decision, and I am delighted our school will continue to thrive and go from strength to strength, as we move into our next fifty years with Mr Gipson.
Finally, I hope to see many of you next Sunday (5th March) for the Eco-Warriors’ Beach Clean at Langkah Syabas.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Ian Gross
