From the Head of PE and Sport 18.06.2022
Sport, sport, sport!!!
I am thrilled to this week be reporting on the successes of students competing in 3 different sports outside of school – badminton, golf and ten pin bowling.
National Junior Circuit Badminton Tournament 2022 – Round 2
A few weeks ago I shared the news about Kon Han’s (10S) wonderful performances in the first round of the competition. She was away last week competing in the 2nd round of the tournament with her Sabah state team mates. Read below Kon Han’s report of yet another toughly contested tournament that saw her have to play out matches with bad blisters so as not to lose her points for Sabah’s total.

“The 2nd Leg Tour was held in Alor Setar, Kedah and I got 2nd place for both doubles and singles. I played against one of my teammates from Sabah for both singles and doubles but lost in straight games for both singles and doubles. Earlier in the tournament at the quarter and semi final final stage I played both stages against my teammates from Sabah. In the semifinals for GSU16 it was all Sabah players playing against each other.
Overall Sabah came first in this group between Kedah, Sarawak, Perlis and Terengganu with a total of 7 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze.
The 100PLUS Junior Elite Tour Final will be in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur from the 21st to 25th of September.”
Kon Han, along with her Sabah team mates, have now qualified for The 100PLUS Junior Elite Tour FInals that will be held in Kuala Lumpur at the end of September. Congratulations and best of luck in the next stage, Kon Han!
Meet the next generation of KIS golfing superstars
KIS has enjoyed a long standing history of hosting some talented golfers, and it looks like we have a new crop of talent coming through in Primary. Chaeeun (6K) and her younger sister Dahyeon (4K) who took up the sport less than a year ago are already competing and even winning titles.
I asked Chaeeun to write a brief report of one of their recent tournaments hosted at the Likas Golf Course.

“Hello! Our names are Chaeeun Yu (Y6K) and Dahyeon Yu (Y4K).
We participated in a SGA ( Sabah Golf Association) Sabah golf tournament on Saturday 4th of June, 2022.
The tournament took place at Likas Par 3 Golf Course.
It was our first tournament so we felt very nervous but our parents encouraged us.
We ended up being in 1st place in the girls category (Dahyeon 9-10years old) and (Chaeeun 11-12 years old).”
Chaeeun was also awarded the overall Girls Championship. A phenomenally impressive achievement for both girls having so recently taken up the sport. Like any successful sportspeople, Chaeeun and Dahyeon put a lot of effort into practicing so it is wonderful to see them rewarded with some excellent results.
I am sure this won’t be the last time I am sharing stories of their successes, watch this space!
Brunswick Youth Challenge 2022 – STRIKE for Natalie Chong
A love of bowling runs in the Chong Family. Natalie (7K) who joined KIS in January, has been involved in the sport for a number of years and holds an impressive personal best score of 276!
At the start of the month, Natalie took part in the Brunswick Youth Challenge tournament, which involved competitors from all over Malaysia. Natalie took part in the Girls U13 Category, and with a score of 235 (a little ways off her best on the day) still managed to place 4th.
Great work Natalie and we look forward to hopefully reporting on some more of your achievements in the future!

Primary Sport Mornings
Students from F1 to Year 6 have been working hard throughout the week to practice some of their activities and events in preparation for their Sport Mornings next week.
A reminder that parents are welcome to come and watch the fun and excitement unfold and we will have some viewing areas set up for parents to view the events from. Even at 8:00am it is already getting hot so parents, you may also want to make sure you are wearing sunscreen, a hat or carrying an umbrella to offer some protection from the sun.
Please check again below the date for your child’s Sport Morning and please make sure they are dressed in their PE uniform and have a hat and water bottle to stay hydrated through the mornings activities.
