From the Principal 27.06.2020
Dear KIS Community,
It has been wonderful to see our older students back in school. Over 90% of our IGCSE and A level students are back in school having lessons with their teachers. Health checks in the morning and afternoon have all gone well. The policies in place are working as they should and we will maintain these as we head to the end of the school year.
I enjoyed meeting with the new PTA Steering Committee this week and I look forward to working with them over the next year as they help to organise various events as and when we are able to. The outgoing PTA Committee had generously donated funds to allow us to purchase a thermal scanner and I believe that this will be installed early next week, giving us the opportunity to enhance our health and safety before the end of the school year.
Earlier this week I was delighted to be able to attend a small ceremony to celebrate our DofE students’ achievements earlier in the week and you can read more about this in the Secondary section. Yesterday the Primary reports were sent by email and the Secondary reports for Years 7-10 will be sent next Friday. Please check your emails for these. Year 6 Parents had a transition webinar with Mrs Smith and Mrs Renshaw and various other transition activities have been and will be taking place as we prepare our students to move up a year level.
I am delighted to be able to announce that the hard work and efforts of our Eco-School Committee over the past year has not been in vain. With thanks to Ms Holmes for organising the documentation and evidence, we have been awarded the Bronze Award as an Eco School. Well done to everyone involved, we still have more to do and I know the committee is keen to continue their hard work in helping us all become greener. We look forward to working towards our silver award.
A while back, in the days before an MCO was imaginable, Mrs Fletcher was working with Helle Enderby from Wild Kids Ink and our Primary students to design and promote educational and non-plastic bags. These have finally been able to be produced and we are delighted with the results. KIS along with the Wild Bunch Bags will be promoting their sale, with 100% of the profits going to support a better understanding and welfare of these animals. Check out our social media to be able to join in and get involved, see these amazing bags designed by some of our students and see how to purchase one, or two.
Next week is the last week of the school year, it is hard to believe it has come around so quickly. There are assemblies (virtual) taking place and it would be fantastic to have all students attend. Please check your emails for more information. Also note, that the last Friday, 3rd July, is a half day and students will finish at 12pm.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Ian Gross
