A Message from Mrs Doreen Johnstone ‘Bookreach’

I am so grateful to the parents and students of KIS who  ‘let go’ of their precious books from home last term. I know how hard it is to give away books, whether or not you still read them !  Your discarded books were handed to my charity, Book Reach, and they have already given a lot of pleasure.

Some of the donated books by KIS Community in May 2019

Book Reach began in 2013 by taking discarded books to needy schools that were crying out for libraries in the Makwanpur district of Nepal. We have now made 19 libraries there. Last year we expanded our work into Sabah and your books were given, some weeks ago, to two schools in Penampang. They already had libraries , but these were mainly course books and your books brightened  up their library with Non-Fiction books as well as Story books.

The student librarians at SK Mutiara unpacked your boxes and bags and put them into Fiction and Non-Fiction categories ready for shelving. You can see the pleasure they had doing this.

I sorted out the lower level books to give to Tadika Harmoni Kindergaden. This school is growing fast and it was good that your books were able to give the younger children the level of books that they needed. Both schools asked me to extend a big THANK YOU for your kindness! “
