“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Peter Drucker

Both personally and professionally I have always found management speak and dealing in aphorisms a little challenging and reductive.

Life and leadership is often very complex and while it is nice to try and summarize our thoughts and feelings into simple statements and pithy comments, it doesn’t always fit.

However, the quote above from Peter Drucker (who is considered by some as the ‘father of modern management theory’) really is quite poignant.

The world around us is evolving at a rapid rate. New technologies are emerging, new ways of communicating, being and doing are arising. The landscape around us is changing and it seems like around every corner there is a new development underway.

If we as a school are to successfully manage the ever-evolving world around us and stay ahead of the curve, it is no good simply sitting back and attempting to predict the future. We must create it for ourselves.

Yesterday KIS hosted a very important Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). Thank you to all of you who were able to come along and cast your vote.

I am delighted to announce that the motion advanced (To release funds for Phase One of the re-development of the KIS school site to be drawn from the school’s ‘Development Fund’) was passed with a 97.5% ‘yes’ vote, 175-4.

The approved building projects (commencing with the re-development of the school field) will have a significant impact on the quality of provision at KIS.

By proactively taking steps to undertake meaningful building work in a sustainable manner, we are creating our own future. Not only that, we are working to ensure that our students have the best opportunities and education available so they may create their own futures also.

In the coming weeks more information will be released about the projects including how the tender process will work. It is vital we find the right people for the job to create the best possible facilities for our students. This process of course will be open to those in our community who can contribute.

Thank you again for your support and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to be in touch by email (sgipson@kis.edu.my), catch me at the school gates, or drop by my office.
