From the Principal 20.04.2024
n just under a week’s time KIS will be hosting a very important EGM. (Extraordinary General Meeting) scheduled for Friday 26th April 0800-0900hrs. This session is shaping up to be one of the most pivotal events in our school’s recent history. I encourage everyone to take the time to come to the event.
At the upcoming EGM we will be asking members to vote on the motion below:
- To release funds for Phase One of the re-development of the KIS school site to be drawn from the school’s ‘Development Fund’.
In recent newsletters I have hinted at what exactly the re-development of the school site will entail. I am delighted to be able to provide further information below.
While KIS is a wonderful school (academically strong and routinely graduates students to many of the best universities globally) we have room for improvement when it comes to certain facilities integral to quality teaching, learning and student development.
Our school site will be redeveloped over the coming years with elements of Phase One of this redevelopment already underway. Phase One will see:
- Re-development and expansion of our school field with installation of an astroturf (synthetic grass) all-weather pitch replete with lights
- Feasibility studies for re-development and full covering of the outdoor basketball courts
- Feasibility studies for installation of 25 meter, six-lane competition and training swimming pool
- Installation of a jungle-walk to fully utilize our school site by creating safe access to the hillside, and also as a precursor future developments of the KIS Jungle/Forest School (the first of its kind in Sabah – more to come soon in relation to this)
Already underway is renovation and re-development of several academic spaces to be completed ready for the start of academic year 2024-25. These improvements include:
- Construction of a new science lab
- Development of new staff workspaces
- Development of a multi-purpose/dance studio
- Construction of a combined whole-school master library
These renovations and developments will not only elevate our offer, enhance our curriculum and aesthetically improve our site, they will also lay the foundation for further phases of development that will take our school to even greater heights.
We look forward to welcoming you to KIS on the 26th of April to vote on this incredibly important motion that will shape the future of our school so KIS may continue to ‘nurture global citizens for years to come.
