Saturday 17th October

Dear KIS Community,

I trust you are all well and ready for a break. Thank you to all of our staff, students and parents for all that has been accomplished in this unusual first half term back in the school year. Please do check your emails as further information regarding online learning and community feedback surveys were sent yesterday. If you have not received these please check with the School Office to make sure we have your correct contact details.

Also sent earlier this week was a letter detailing some of the wonderful student achievements that have been taking place. One of these was the first issue of a student newspaper (KIS Today), if you missed the email, the newspaper is available through our website: https://www.kis.edu.my/kis-today/

As a FOBISIA school, I had the delightful opportunity to visit (virtually) a British School in Japan early on this week as part of their application to join FOBISIA. It was also a good occasion to experience a virtual school visit ahead of our CIS reaccreditation in March. A virtual visit is an excellent replacement for being there in person, you can still really get a sense of the school and get to meet students, staff and parents. The school I visited is an outstanding school in many ways and it is reassuring visiting such schools, that much of what they do is similar and mirrored in what we do here at KIS.

Mentioned last week, in conjunction with the Eco-Warriors, KIS is planning to go ‘single use plastic bag’ free from the 1st November. This half term break is an ideal time to sort through the bags you use for school and make sure all single use bags are removed so that they can’t find a way of getting into school. The environment is all of our responsibility, not someone else’s and we all have to play our part.

In playing our part, not just the environment, but awareness. October is typically the month used to highlight breast cancer awareness which we recognise through Think Pink, we had planned a day at school for this but unfortunately we were not in school. To help raise awareness, throughout the week after the half term, please show your support by wearing, using, back dropping etc. with the colour pink. Let’s see how pink we can get.

Please see below for a message from David Powell, Chair of the Board of Governors for this year’s AGM. I wish you all a lovely and safe half term holiday,

Ian Gross
Principal

A Message from our Chair of the Board of Governors

The KIS AGM will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday 28th November 2020 at 0930 hrs.    We will need 105 parents to join the Zoom call at 0930hrs on that morning in order to achieve Quorum so PLEASE do block a little time on the 28th November to join this important meeting.   The official Notice of the AGM and invitation to register will be sent out after the half-term break.

Three of the existing Board members – Seon Young Park, Martin Forsyth and Matthew Lo will be continuing into the 2nd year of their term. An additional four of the existing hard working Board members – Gina Pang, Shirley Yu, Angus Wong and Hans Dols, who have completed their term of office have kindly agreed to stand again. The School Constitution states that no more than half the Board Members can be of the same nationality and two Non Malaysian Board members, Toto Setiawan and David Powell will not be re-standing. We welcome anyone who feels they are able to contribute to the school through joining the Board to stand for election but given the constitutional requirements we especially encourage nominations from non-Malaysians to fill at least these two vacancies on the Board.
