Saturday 14th November
Dear KIS Community,
Thank you to everyone in the PTASC involved in creating the Recipe Book, it really is looking fantastic. Do check the PTA page for details on how to order your own copy of the KIS International Day Recipe Book and other information for events coming up.
Last Wednesday was Remembrance Day and KIS gave time to respect all those that have given their lives through conflict throughout the world, so that we can live in peace. Thank you to everyone who was able to join the virtual assembly, but if you missed it, I will leave you with the words of Laurence Binyon:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
Next week on Wednesday we are promoting wellbeing throughout our community and it can mean many things for many people. Many of our students have been working on supporting the community with ideas for wellbeing and activities that can be done at home to promote mindfulness as well. We see this opportunity as not only important, but also a preventative action rather than a cure.
Imagine for a moment that all your stresses are like water collecting in a bucket, the bucket keeps getting fuller. We do not want the water to overflow and spill out, we want to have an opportunity to drain some of the water away before the bucket fills up. Wellbeing Wednesday, we hope, is an opportunity to support this. Check the Primary and Secondary pages, and of course your emails, for further information.
In support of Wellbeing Wednesday, one of our parents has kindly arranged free diamond painting kits for students at KIS (primary & secondary). The diamond painting kits come in bookmarks, notebooks, compact mirrors, etc. Due to the size of pieces, they are not suitable for anyone below the age of 7 years. If you would like a kit, it can be collected from the store ARTISERRIE in the Kolombong area (quite near school). More information can be found at www.artiserrie.com. Parents interested can contact Arthur at 0198667173. Collection times will be from 11am to 3pm this Saturday and Sunday. Parent /guardian name and contact number with children’s year group will be needed, though your child’s name is not required.
Today is Diwali, and is the festival of lights. I wish we could have been back in school to help celebrate this joyous time and will miss the bright decorations. I wish all of our community a joyous Diwali this year.
Finally, please remember the KIS AGM is taking place in two weeks’ time on Saturday 28th. Check your emails for further information and to sign up to the Zoom AGM meeting.
I wish you all a lovely weekend and a happy Diwali.
