From the Principal 10.10.2020
Saturday 10th October
Dear KIS Community,
I hope you are all keeping well and remaining calm as we come to the end of the first week with the CMCO. I would like to thank all of our students, staff and parents for the smooth switch over to online learning, which from feedback I am getting, has gone very smoothly for most. As before, we will be asking for your feedback as we go into the half-term break. A special thank you to Ms Service for organising the online exams and a huge well done to all the Year 11s for completing their exams in this manner.
Congratulations are also in order to all the students and supporting staff in the recent FOBISIA English competition, in which we placed second. A great achievement across a group of excellent schools throughout Asia. Another student led initiative, is from our Eco-Warriors; always championing environmental change, KIS has partnered with OneBorneo and Blue Hope to pledge that we will be a single use plastic bag free school from November 1st. We can’t do this without your help, please do not use single use plastic bags at school anymore. If you see any at school, let us know.
The PTASC is continuing to prepare the International Recipe Book and whilst they are still happy to receive your recipes, they are also looking for artwork from students to display alongside the recipe pages. You can see some great examples in the PTASC section of the newsletter.
As previously published last Monday, we plan to continue with online learning up to the half term break at the end of next week. We hope to know more at that time regarding the CMCO and will communicate with you when we understand more what this might mean for a return to school.
Finally, an idea that was first raised by a parent last year has now come to fruition. Following a particularly busy morning in the school shop at the start of a school year, the suggestion was made, what if we could order uniform online and the collect it? We had been working on this last year, though the MCO did disrupt our plans and slow the launch down. However, I am pleased to be able to share with you the online KIS shop. You can visit at http://shop.kis.edu.my/ , please note currently orders cannot be fulfilled until we are able to be back in school. My thanks to Ms Ambrose for taking an idea and making it into a reality.
I wish you all a lovely and safe weekend,
Ian Gross
