From the Principal 04.05.2024

Though this week has been slightly interrupted with a day off Wednesday, the onward march of progress continues at KIS.
As usual this week has been incredibly busy with many great events and exciting developments taking place. The week has been extra busy for some of our teachers with interviews taking place for a suite of new leadership positions that will commence Term 1 of next academic year.
It has been wonderful to spend a good portion of this week sitting with members of the KIS staff from across both Primary and Secondary to talk about life, learning and leadership.
Commencing August will be the implementation of new ‘Assistant Head’ roles in both Primary and Secondary. These roles will take specific ownership over key areas of the school and cover the areas of Wellbeing, Teaching & Learning, and Enrichment.
The intention is to ensure that all key areas of the school are not only managed, but continually improved and elevated.
These updates and more will be articulated in greater detail on May 16th at what is shaping up to be a very exciting event during the ‘Launch of AY 2024-25’ coffee morning.
On this day not only will I be discussing the leadership updates I will also be providing further details on several new programs and opportunities for our students. Additionally I will also be introducing the community to several new teachers and leaders who will be joining KIS come August.
This event will be open to both KIS parents as well as external families and we encourage everyone to invite friends and family members who may be interested in finding out what makes KIS so exceptional. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please keep an eye out for an RSVP Google Form.
Traffic Update

Below I have provided an update regarding the ongoing traffic challenges along Jalan Khidmat and Jalan KIS. We do appreciate that traffic can be heavy, particularly at pick-up times.

Update & Actions Taken So Far

  • Monitoring has shown a reduction in traffic since our return after the April break

  • SMK ST Francis have altered their Wednesday schedule, reducing traffic that day

  • Road works will continue along Jalan Khidmat to widen the road for the coming months

  • I have met with several of our neighbors including SMK ST Francis and Sabah Society of the Deaf and will be scheduling meetings with with Masjid Nurul Hikmah Mosque, KK City English SDA Church and the Ministry of Education ICT Division to consider possible solutions

  • Contact made with DBKK requesting details of road works and to share our experience

Planned Actions

  • KIS will aim to host a meeting with our neighbors to collaborate on solutions

  • Some road markings will be repainted along parts of Jalan KIS

Guidance for KIS Community

To reduce traffic congestion, it is vital that everyone plays their part. We kindly request that everyone (staff, parents, wider community) adhere to the guidance below…

  • If using the Mosque car park – respect the property of our neighbors and expectations around noise and decency

  • Enter the car park through the designated entrance and exit through the exit gate only

  • Park cars facing the street for easier exit

  • Do not double park anywhere along Jalan KIS and only park in designated parking spaces

  • Follow the direction of traffic enforcement at all times

  • Avoid u-turning on Jalan KIS and only turn around at roundabout at end of the street

  • Carpool where and when possible

  • Affix a KIS bumper sticker (you may get a sticker or two free of charge from our front office or gatehouse) so we can better manage traffic for our community members

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to providing further updates in due course.

Please enjoy a wonderful weekend ahead.
