From the Head of Primary 03.12.2022
Another busy 4 day week! This week we had Green Day to celebrate the fantastic news that we have received the Green Flag from the Eco Schools Committee.
Y6 and Y4 held a Showcase of their learning to celebrate the end of their term’s topic.
Year 6 Showcase
On Thursday this week, Year 6 presented their showcase on ‘The Human Body’. In small groups, the students produced presentations, models and activities related to different parts of the human body.
In a brilliantly set out MPR, they received guests from classes, parents and the school’s biology teachers Mr Clifford and Mrs Beresford, who said, “It was Fantastic! They showed such a great amount of knowledge about the human body and presented brilliantly!”
The showcase set the bar high for the remaining presentations throughout the year and it is clear that parents can look forward to even bigger and better next term, where Year 6 will be looking at ‘Art’ and ‘World War 2’. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next! Well done Year 6, a superb presentation.
Mark Beresford.
Year 4 Showcase
Year 4 were very excited to share their student-led learning from their topic work on Lost Civilisations through a Showcase presented to parents and classes. They selected the areas of research for each civilisation and decided the best ways in which they wanted to present what they had learnt.
Working in small groups throughout the term, children learned about one of many Lost Civilisations and carried out their research to learn about food, clothing, weapons and religious beliefs of their chosen civilisation.
Everyone worked extremely hard to share the information they learned in interesting ways and we were all excited to present our learning to a packed MPR, filled with Primary classes, friends and family. We hope you enjoyed learning about these Lost Civilisations as much as we enjoyed carrying out our research and presenting our learning to you all!

Due to the public holiday and the AGM, we had our first assembly in two weeks. We continued to talk about bullying. Unfortunately, recently we have had a few students who have been body shaming others. As you know we do not accept such behaviour at KIS therefore I spoke to the students at length about how damaging this can be and it would really help if you could reinforce this message at home.
We had a lot of Bronze certificates to give out and even our first Silver certificates! We also announced the Stars of the Week from each class as well as which class won the ’Trashless class’ award.
Next week is our amazing yearly event Book Week!
The Book Fair will also be here every day in the MPR from 8am-2pm.
On Monday we will host our Big Book Swap – make sure your child has brought a book in for this. There will also be an array of book quizzes and ‘The Big Read’ on that day when the whole school will be reading their favourite books at the same time.
Thursday is PJ day. Children can come dressed in their pyjamas and there will be a Book@bedtime for the last lesson where students will cosy up in their classroom to listen/read their favourite books!
Friday is Character Book Day. Children can come dressed as their favourite character from a book. There will be a parade in the morning and students with the best costume will win a prize.
Throughout the week there will be ‘Drop It and Read’ sessions and times where the secondary students will come down to read to the younger students.
It is going to be a glorious week of celebrating all that is fabulous about Books!
Also, next week Serene from Year 6 and Dahyeon from Y5 will be attending the Nexus School Global Summit with myself. This is a yearly event that children from around the world attend to present their ideas on certain themes. This year’s theme is Peace. Serene and Dahyeon have prepared their speeches and are ready to present them next Tuesday. Wish them luck!
Coming soon:
Finally, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to a 2 new students and their families who joined us this week:
