The Sabah Foundation

On Monday morning we had the Sabah Foundation and their film crew in school to record all of Key Stage Two singing Kami Anak-Anak Indah. The students sang extremely well and made us all very proud. We have been told that it will take about two weeks to prepare the video and, once it is ready, we will be sent a copy.

This video is the official launch of the song and will be used to help encourage other children around Sabah to look after the beaches and environment. It is hoped that the official launch will happen at UMS on World Earth Day.

Major Tulloch and World War Two in Sabah

On Wednesday, Year 6 were able to extend their knowledge on World War Two when they listened to Major Tulloch tell stories of how Sabahans were affected during World War Two and the effect of the Japanese occupation of Northern Borneo during the war. Major Tulloch was also able to give the students lots of information about the European Internment Camps, Sandakan Prisoner of War camps and how the prisoners were led on to the Death March.

At the end of the talk, Major Tulloch asked the students if they had any questions. Both he and I were very impressed with the number of sensible questions from the students about both the war and its effects on the Sabahans and prisoners, as well as questions about the book that he is writing about WW2 in Borneo.

Phonics Talk

It was lovely to see so many people at Mrs Walker’s Phonics topic talk on Thursday. Phonics underpins all reading, writing and spelling, so it is very important for everyone involved in supporting children along their learning journeys to have an understanding of phonics. If you were unable to attend, or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mrs Walker.
