From the Head of PE & Sport 13.04.2024

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! I hope all our families celebrating this special occasion have enjoyed the time with family and friends over the past few days.

While it has only been a short week back in, a lot was going on during the term holiday break and we also have A HUGE number of events to look forward to in this final term of the school year including; the Primary FOBISIA Games, Liga SupaRimau Season B, EYFS Sports Morning, Stand Up Paddleboarding KIS Cup and MSSD events.

One more event that will be making it’s return this year is our previously very popular, and hotly contested “Get Up and Move Challenge”. This year, with the Paris Olympics just around the corner we will see the three teams of – Students, Staff and Parents – take the start line to see who can cover the 11,000km to Paris first! The event will run through the month of May and also tie in with additional activities during PE curriculum lessons with an Olympic focus.

Be sure to keep a close eye on school communications and coming newsletters for all the information on these exciting events.

In the last couple of months KIS students have taken part in multiple basketball tournaments, continuing to test their growth and progress against other local schools and basketball clubs.

From these tournaments, a number of students have also been selected to represent various teams at the upcoming U17 Sabah State Championships to be held in KK later this month.

Congratulations and best of luck to the following students in the tournament.

Sebastian James, Dasha Ong, Mischa Chan, Pui San Kan and Isabella James were selected to represent Putatan. While Caleb Wong has been asked to represent Kudat.

KIS CUP – Stand Up Paddleboarding for Schools event

As mentioned in my last newsletter before the holidays, KIS are looking to help promote the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) and create opportunities for students to enjoy this fantastic and fun physical activity by sponsoring the KIS Cup as part of the upcoming SUP Tournament being hosted by Borneo Paddle Monkeys and Kinabalu Yacht Club taking place on Saturday 1st June.

School teams can be comprised of a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 paddlers made up of both students and staff. The race will be 2km long and will take place in the beautiful water off Tanjung Aru Beach with Mount Kinabalu as a backdrop.

This is a beginner-level event and open to all paddlers regardless of previous experience. Don’t have a board? Don’t worry! Boards can be arranged upon request on the day for race use.

The cost of taking part in the event will be RM70 and will also include a competition t-shirt.

If you think your child would be interested in taking part in this event as part of a KIS team then please complete this Expression of Interest Google Form by clicking the link here

Come on KIS and ‘get on board’ with this great event that is sure to make a ‘big splash’ in the KK community!

FOBISIA News

Primary FOBISIA (April 29-May 3) – Important dates

Wednesday 17th April – Swimming at Penampang Pool. Students to be collected at 3:15pm.

It is very important that we have ALL students in attendance at this final session, especially those children who have been unable to attend the first two sessions understandably due to Ramadan and Raya celebrations.

Wednesday 24th April – Pre-departure team meeting

On this day, we will have a Team Meeting with students from 2:00-2:40pm where we will go over final details and make announcements regarding captains and rooming arrangements. Following the meeting with the students, I will then invite all parents in for a quick briefing from 2:40pm to 3:00pm as an opportunity for you to ask any final questions prior to our departure.
