From the Eco Warriors 16.09.2023
This Thursday, our Secondary Eco Warriors had their first meeting and started brainstorming all of the exciting projects they would like to do this term! We discussed the difficult challenge governments face about whether to focus money and resources on mitigating climate change to slow down the impacts, or on adaptation to the already changing world around us. The Eco Warriors would like to focus on reducing waste in school as well as improving our electricity usage habits and creating a new outdoor environment that brings benefits for both the students and the wildlife that our site is home to..
Mangrove Clean Up
Remember that Sunday 17th September is our first Eco Warrior event of the school year and this time we will be down at KK Wetlands to learn about and clean up the trash that accumulates in the mangrove ecosystem there. The event is 9-11am and open to all from year 3 up. Everyone must bring a water bottle, hat, insect repellent and some small change if they wish to hire boots. Eco Schools Committee
If you are a member of staff or a parent, there is still time to sign up for our Eco Committee. This committee formed of students and adults will meet four times per year to discuss the goals KIS has around environmental sustainability and action plan together. The first meeting is Tuesday 26th September so please email eco@kis.edu.my as soon as possible to tell us why you would be a great addition to our passionate committee!
A reminder to bring your own container
This half term we are encouraging people to bring their own containers to the school canteen to buy anything other than the pre-ordered meals. This is to reduce the amount of single use packaging that KIS sends to the quickly filling landfill sites in Malaysia. After half term there will be a small charge for takeaway packaging. Thank you to everyone who is in great habits with this already.
