As part of our yearly review to consider how as a KIS community we can embed all things ‘Eco’ into our daily lives, please take a moment to read our school Eco Code. If you think it is missing anything, then please let us know by emailing eco@kis.edu.my

Eco Volunteering Opportunity – Mangrove Clean Up

On Sunday 17th September, KIS will be taking part in a mangrove clean at the Kota Kinabalu Wetland. This is an important and vulnerable ecosystem in our local community which is under threat from the vast amount of waste that is washed in with the tide. Rubbish, which largely consists of single-use plastic items, gets easily trapped in the roots of the mangroves and presents many problems to the animals that call it home.

We are inviting students to sign up to this first volunteering event of the year by completing this form. This particular opportunity is open to students in Year 3 and above, and our primary students will need to be accompanied by a parent. All attendees will be asked to pay the small conservation fee of RM5 or RM10 (child or adult) and should bring their own wellies or cash to hire some (limited sizes available).

We hope that this will be an eye-opening event for our students to see the impact plastics can have on another ecosystem, and a worthwhile use of our Sunday morning! The clean-up will take place from 9am until 11am, during which time the tide will steadily rise. Please wear quick-dry clothing and bring a reusable water bottle and hat.
