FOOD WASTE MONITORING
Last week the Eco Warriors began asking secondary students to use a new system when clearing away their boxes at lunch. All students were disposing of any unwanted food into the same bin, and this was weighed at the end. The average weight of this bin was 3.3kg. This only included years 7-10 and secondary staff. This also did not include any food brought from home, or anything left in the canteen itself.
Eco Warriors were asking students about the food they waste and responses were mainly about not liking the food, having something they didn’t choose themselves, or not being hungry. We encourage parents to speak to students about what food to pre-order so that less food is wasted each day.
We have also been encouraging people to bring their own containers instead of using single use paper packaging. We are seeing more and more people do this but many of us still forgetting! Next academic year we strive to be a no single use packaging school.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards Eco Warrior initiatives this year and welcome one and all to join our ECA next year to help make Kinabalu International School a more green, clean community!
TRASH HEROES BEACH CLEANUP
