Dear KIS Community,

We are well on our way to the end of another school year and I just wish to take a snapshot of what is happening and what is coming up, take a deep breath:

Well done to our senior students who have finished all their IGCSE, AS and A level exams, you can relax a little and look forward to your results in August. Year 7 to 10 are currently ‘enjoying’ their end of year examinations which will finish next week. Primary students had their progress tests in English, maths and science, depending on year group of course.

Away from assessments, Year 1 have a Showcase and Trip to Mari Mari next week, Year 3 will be visiting the Cheshire Home, the Bomba (Fire Brigade) will be making a visit to school, Year 4 will be off to Outward Bound for their annual residential. Year 5 and Year 6 will be having Assemblies and Showcases. Let’s not forget our Drama production of Macbeth is taking place next week on Wednesday and Thursday. The hall is very busy, as we have our Year 13 Graduation on Friday next week followed by the Senior Prom on Saturday at Sutera Harbour. I am also looking forward to meeting our new PTA Steering Committee for their first meeting, you can find out more about the Committee members and their positions in the PTA section. If you have some free time, our EcoWarriors have organised a Beach Clean on Sunday 18th.

The week after this, Year 6 students will be following a Transition Programme for joining the Secondary school into Year 7, F2 will also have a Transition Day to learn about Year 1 and other Primary classes will be learning more about their next school year for their Transitions. Duke of Edinburgh will be out on adventurous journeys for silver and bronze awards. Year 3 will have a Dino trip. In the middle of the week we have our third Music Recital with Secondary students. In the morning though, there is a coffee morning to understand more about EAL teaching at KIS. This is followed by the Year 2 Showcase and a Year 7 Geography trip. To end the week a whole school Science day is taking place.

The final week is no less busy with the annual Year 6 Residential, to Outward Bound, Year 10 and Year 12 have Career Days, including our own University Fair. The middle of the week sees a return of our annual KIS Has Talent Show, a brief pause for Hari Raya Haji on the Thursday before we close the year with End of Term Celebration Assemblies and House Activities.

Did I also mention the usual day to day learning experiences inside and outside of classrooms continue? The teachers are also very busy preparing end of year reports for all students. It is a busy few weeks, but we enjoy creating such opportunities for our students, parents and staff and I really do thank our wonderful staff for maintaining the fantastic opportunities for your children throughout the school year, on top of the expected rigour of daily lessons for teaching and learning.

Finally, it can’t be all work and no play. The 50th Anniversary Committee have organised a Cocktail Evening at Le Meridien this Saturday and I look forward to being with some of you there and seeing who will win RM5000 off their school fees. Thank you to Nicole Gervasi and Shirley Yu for organising, and to the many parent volunteers helping to promote this event, whilst it is the last in this academic year, more 50th Anniversary Events are planned for the new academic year, including our official 50th Anniversary on October 10th.

Have a lovely weekend,
