From the Head of Primary 11.02.2023
As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, Tuesday was Safer Internet Day.

Each class put aside a part of their day to focus on what this day means and practical ways in which the students can be safer online. With students spending more and more time online than ever before, it is essential that they are aware of the dangers and how to conduct themselves online. However, it is not just us educators that have a role to play in creating and maintaining a better online world, parents and carers need to help to ensure the messages being delivered in school are reinforced at home. Find out more here: https://www.saferinternetday.org/
Y6 were lucky enough to have two talented street artists come into school to work with them on a project to support their unit of learning on Street Art.
What a superb day we have had creating some wonderful street art. Phey and Adam, local KK street artists came in to show Year 6 how they can be creative with a spray can. The children were able to create imaginative fonts using their initials with Adam and also used animal stencils which were handcrafted and designed by Adam to embellish their backgrounds. A truly inspiring day with some local artistic talent, we hope that some of the artwork created today by the children will be on the walls at home very soon!

Next week our Primary Learning Conferences will take place. If you have not yet made an appointment, please do look for the sign up sheet on Class Dojo or contact your child’s class teacher. It is so important to keep up to date with your child’s academic progress and growth so you can be better informed about your child’s strengths, needs, behaviours, and learning styles.

Over the years, there has been much research carried out into the importance of parent-teacher partnerships and the importance of this relationship cannot be underestimated. For teachers, being able to communicate with parents helps them better understand a child’s strengths and their own individual personality and learning style. The more information that they have about a student, the more teachers can focus on teaching and being able to address and overcome challenges along the way that may be unique to each child. Ultimately both teachers and parents want the best for their children and by working in partnership this can certainly be achieved resulting in numerous positive advantages:
- Improved academic achievement
- A more positive attitude towards learning
- A feeling of empowerment and confidence
- Enhanced relationships with parents, peers and teachers.

This week, in our celebration assembly, we began to talk about relationships and the different types of families that we all live in. We celebrated the Stars of the Week and gave out Bronze, Silver and Gold awards!
I have noticed that there have been a number of students arriving late to school. Please can I remind you that your child needs to be in school by 7:45am which is when the class lines up. This way they will be on time for registration. It is important for children to arrive at school on time every day. Being on time sets a positive example of responsibility and punctuality, which are important life skills that they will carry into adulthood. Also starting the day on time allows them to fully participate in all morning activities and lessons, ensuring they don’t miss any important information or instructions. Therefore please support us in making sure your child is at school on time and ready to learn every day.
Also, a number of our younger students have been buying from the canteen. A reminder that only Y6 students can buy from the canteen on the day, all other students must pre-order their food.

As you are aware, we have a special Gala Dinner coming up on 29th April to celebrate our 50th anniversary. During this dinner there will be a dance performance from KS2 students. We are currently looking for volunteers for this. If your child is interested, please ask them to speak to myself or Ms. Mangkiu
Finally I would like to extend a very warm welcome to a number of new students and their family who joined us this week:
Owen in F2, Ian in Y1 and Sofea in Y6
Have a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
