From the Head of Primary 19.02.2022
I would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding as we have switched between being physically in school and online over the last two weeks. It isn’t easy for any of us but it is reassuring to see such smooth transitions between the two, which inevitably results in less disruption to your child’s education.
A huge thank you to all those parents who attended the online parent/teacher meetings this week. As I said in last week’s newsletter, it is so important to keep up to date with your child’s academic progress and we all appreciate you taking the time to do so. If you were unable to attend for any reason, please still contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a meeting.
I would like to thank the Year 3 teaching team for kick starting school trips in the primary school. This is the first trip that has gone ahead in nearly two years and we all hope this will be the start of many more. Day trips and residential trips have always been a huge part of our extended curriculum at KIS which the children thoroughly enjoy and have many of the following added benefits;
- Enhancing critical thinking skills
- Experiential learning
- Expanded worldview
- Developing a healthy bond between teachers and students
- Learning local culture
- Increased social skills and confidence
- Reinforcing the school curriculum
- Making memories
Please read on to hear all about the Y3 trip to Tao Art Studio:
‘Year 3 have had a fun filled day trying their hand at pottery. They learnt skills such as pinching to make a canopic jar and using tools to cross hatch to attach extra detail. They also had the chance to throw some pottery on a potter’s wheel. Having learnt about the purpose of canopic jars, they could choose whether to replicate these or use them as inspiration to express their own ideas. They also had a chance to express themselves when painting, which they did with great care. We look forward to collecting the finished product in a few weeks for them to bring home. All in all, it was a busy and enjoyable day full of learning (don’t tell the year 3 children) and fun.’

Love was in the air this week as the students celebrated Valentine’s Day for the weekly fun Dojo challenge:

Finally I would like to extend a very warm welcome to a new student and his family who joined us this week:
